Team Fortress 2 for me. Still easily my favorite multiplayer shooter of all time, though I probably have put more hours into Counter-Strike.

Why don't you just list the series names, so Call of Duty etc don't have tonnes of options.
I don't have "tonnes" of options for Call of Duty, just two. I decided to list both because to me they are both distinct gaming experiences.

Like I said before, I was just going off of games I've played and that I really only game on the 360.
My bad, it just irks me when I see a poll for multiple games in the same series in a s subject matter like this.

Team Fortress 2 hands down for me. Given the other choices, Bad Company 2 beats them all. What issues the game had the PC patch just fixed, making it one of the best online games I've yet played (that isn't a Valve game).

But yeah, missing TF2 or even L4D2 on this list isn't the wisest. I mean c'mon, you seriously thought anyone would vote for ODST or Bioshock 2? Bioshock 2 has possibly the worst, most unbalanced and butchered multiplayer I've ever laid hands on.

Leave it to a console gamer to add ODST and forget about Counterstrike or TF2 (which would be my votes).

I'm pretty sure you've heard this many times already, but Team Fortress 2 or Counter-Strike should be on that poll. I feel that TF2 is the best, as it is an extremely balanced gaming experience, for the most part(trying to win with two moderately well defended teams and an infinite time frame on 2fort can go on for hours and with no team gaining any ground), and any imbalances can be easily countered. Camping Soldier/Demoman? Uber-charge. Annoying Spies/Scouts? Pyros. Annoying "aimbotting" snipers? Other Sniper/Spy. Annoying Engi defending his base too well? Coordinated Spy rush/Uber-charge. Enemy Heavy+Medic pair on the loose? Spies/Your own Heavy+Medic pair.

Out of stuff from the past few years, TF2, easily. Before that, probably UT (original and 2k4) and Q3A.
Drop Quake 3 off that list as you are I are basically the same person. I've never heard of anyone who likes Unreal Tournament AND Quake 3 Arena ;)
I didn't actually play the final game all that much, but I have to include it just for the sheer amount of time I wasted on Q3Test before the game itself or UT came out. It's amazing how many hours you can play the same couple maps over the course of multiple LAN parties. It also gets points for being part of the reason I go Soldier in TF2, because the way the rockets feel reminds me of Q3 instead of a lot of the more "realistic" ones in a lot of other newer games. After both games were out, though, my house went pretty much strictly UT.

I know I'm not the first person to point it out but no TF2? WTF?! It's definitely by far the best online FPS I've ever played and I've played most of those games on you're list
Heh, first time I can recall seeing the your/you're gaff in reverse.

I'll go with TF2. It was the most fun I had playing a FPS online.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

I just can't get enough.

Also, I give it credit for making the medic a class that makes me believe my moments on that current life are numbered.

Oh my god... you people chanting "TF2! TF2!" has made me go and buy it on impulse just to see what the fuss is all about... I regret not buying it for 6GBP(orange box) back in Christmas. I did have a slight urge to check it out back then, but I owned the original, so I played it for a bit to see if I liked it, but I didn't think too much of it.

And I just found out CoD4 is going for 10GBP... I bought it just 2 months ago for three times the price. Smacking head against wall now.
