Western RPG = Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant (PC)

JRPG = Shining in the Darkness (Genesis)

Most Fun RPG = Planescape: Torment (PC)

I like how the thead is "Best RPG Ever!" yet the titles listed are all from the last couple of years. That would be like asking the who was the best president ever, but then only listing Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama. So sad.

agreed. but lots of people don't seem to have played teh ancients. I guess it's an inevitable phase of gaming history - the new generations forget about the old - current games ARE the old for them...

I'm a big fan of Mass Effect, mostly because I've had it a bit with the swords and all :p Not a whole lot of freedom in it but it's a shot at originality I suppose...

WTF?!?!?
Where's Zelda?

*Sadly clicks 'other'*
I know Zelda has RPG elements but I never knew it was considered an actual RPG, I thought it was a adventure/puzzle game.
I think it comes down to what your opinion of an RPG game is really.
It has way more adventure elements than RPG elements but I still think it has a feel of an RPG.

Hmmm... Guess I should've thought about it a little more before i whinged :)

*happily changes vote to Fallout 3*
oh wait... I can't :(

No Rogue likes?
No Ultima 7?
No Deus Ex?
No System Shock?

No Class!
I was going to do a post almost exactly like this but it pretty much sums me up. Also is the definition of an RPG drastically changed in the last few years? Bioshock as an RPG? Deus Ex? well to a very slight extent maybe. Zelda and Fable? They're more of an action-adventure, as vague as that genre is.

I still haven't beaten that. Maybe I feel guilty about pirating it (though it's Nintendos fault for not releasing it outside of Japan the bas,ds).
Yeah even getting an emulator for it is annoying because you have to get an emulation then you have to download the translation which is the easy part and you may have to get the WinRAR thingy.

But FE6 is difficult. First you have to get the emulation which is only slightly easier than finding the full translation of which only one exists and I do not remember where I found it.

And there's an ongoing joke that the Wii and DS print money. Japan stop being evil and make the GBA print some too.

This is a highly disappointing poll. Why is Two Worlds up ther but not Mass Effect/KotOR? Why are both Fables up there (very shallow games) but nothing by Square Enix, who (argubaly) laid down the groundwork for many RPGs? I'm getting the feeling you've never owned a console beside XBOX/XBOX 360.

I'll write in both FF VI and Chrono Trigger... if it wasn't for these two games, I probably still wouldn't play RPGs

Kinda shifty to not have even one JRPG.... the genre started in the west, but if it wasn't for FF VII, the entire genre would be niche and mostly played on PC

Godly story, Epic gameplay
