Some of the SAS missions in the COD4 SP campaign had amazing stealth elements. Also, in multiplayer go to any tdm server with fewer than 20 people with a silenced, uav jammer, and dead silence class, and you'll be able to knife people from behind easily.
Oh that reminds me, the mission "All Gillied up" is probably my all time favorite mission in any call of duty game. stealth gameplay, but still awesome sniper parts, and the tension is so damn high!

True that mate. Can't say I'm excited for Conviction, after what was Double Agent.. That game was annoying as hell.

We should hide from the concept of stealth as it basically says you cannot charge in screaming lopping heads off to and fro.

i never played deus ex, but what i picked up from youtube videos, it looks rather fun, but also rather difficult. it was like an opposite of "thief" as its in a sort of future setting and the stealth is also accompanied by action combat.

please correct me if i am wrong

exactly, i couldn't have said it better myself, stealth is basically just the opposite of being the heavy in TF2... oh wait, thats just the spy.

Agreed, it was the only stealth game I ever had the patience for the complete. A very thrilling game. I still want to try the Thief series though, I've got the feeling that that one is even better.

This.

Fisher was a blast to play; the game struck the perfect balance between lethality and fragility.

EDIT: in the interest of full disclosure, I have not played thief.

I voted MGS but only because MGS3 was one of the only game in the whole series to have a boss you HAVE to use stealth to kill! And it to this day is my fav boss fight ever

Geek Fact : David Hayter's fav boss is The End too

Tie between Hitman and Thief, in Thief you can't be seen at all, which sucks, but in Hitman you don't really have to sneak much, which sucks as well..

Meh they're great games anyway.

.....And that's not so much stealth as puzzle gameplay in a way. It's the payoff, seeing your master plan go into action (You replaced the actors gun with a real one so he shoots your target during the stage rehearsal for example. All while you watch from the balconies snickering to yourself!) that makes it all totally worth it....
Better yet, is when you plant the explosives in the ceiling, and detonate them to kill his gay lover as well.... xD

While Hitman, isn't entirely the act of "staying within the shadows" and includes the usage of disguise as well with accompanying the fact of killing your victims without being detected, i still believe its definately up there.

Completely agreed, Especially the multiplayer. I played the demo of 'Double Agent' years later and switched it off within 2 minutes because of how awful it was in comparison.

I'd say the 'Tenchu' series is more worthy of being on the list than 'Deus Ex' as a stealth game.

Metal Gear, definitely. Although Blood Money was a brilliant title, its still only one game - every Metal Gear Solid game I've played has been wonderful.
Have you played any of the Thief games? While overall I prefer MGS, the Thief games come across to me as better stealth games because of the freeform style that The Madman has already described.

I say Metal gear but not as a series, After MGS4 the stealth aspect was ruined
