Churchill, 'nuff said

Churchill was a politician during World War II. In World War 1 as an Admiral he fucked up nearly everything he touched. His awful ability to adapt to change during the Dardanelles campaign lead to him being stripped of his position and put on the front lines, and to thousands upon thousands of needless deaths. He also poorly mapped the Middle East and was responsible for a huge portion of conflict there. The man had great spirit and created moral during World War 2, but that's about it.

Shaka Zulu.

Conquering that much of Africa couldn't have been easy. Though I have no learning in this area, so I don't know.

Alexander the Great for his massive expanding empire.

Ghenghis Khan for uniting the once independent tribes and taking over most of the Asian continent.

Hitler for almost taking over the world through both military might and his ability as an orator.

My personal top 3 is
3. Aleksandr Suvorov for reforming Russia's military.
2. Alexander the Great for taking over the known world (died a bit too young).
1. Genghis Khan for creating history's largest empire.
All the leaders on my list never lost a battle.

al-Malik al-Zahir Rukn al-Din Baibars al-Bunduqdari.

First general to achieve a decisive military victory over the Mongols, successfully captured the Crusader held cities of Arsuf, Athlith, Haifa, Safad, Jaffa, Ashkalon, Caesarea and Antioch.

He basically single handedly expelled the crusaders from the 'holy land', as well as repelling the Golden Horde.

Well, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to this.
He went to Russia and lost because of a winter, like Hitler, he conquered Europe and humiliated supposed powerful nations like Hitler (well for Napoleon it was Austria and for Hitler is was ironically France), basically the WWII European theatre was very comparable to Napoleon, the biggest difference though was the Napoleon wasn't really a homicidal maniac just a successful dictator.

Julius Caesar was a great leader, expanding the empire and conquering Gaul, the soldiers loved him and had the support of people. shame he got killed by part of the senate.
Why? Oh he conquered Gaul, not that amazing it's as amazing as Mussolini conquering Ethiopia, his enemies are technologically inferior, he was richer more powerful more professional and outright superior in terms of military. The only thing he did was turn Rome into a dictatorship. I have no idea why people think he is so great, sure he conquered Gaul but there are many other conquests far more fascinating and amazing. Alexander the Great conquered more, Genghis Khan conquered soooo more, Britain conquered sooo much more, France conquered more, Ceasar?

...But William the Conqueror really has to be applauded; he took mad control over England.

But the best...

Genghis Kahn?

EDIT: Also, WHERE IS MY POLL?!?!?!?!
False promises. This is disappointing. This is unnacceptable.
THIS IS MADNESS.

Saying that Napeleon is the 19th century Hitler is a bit of an overkill. All he tried to do was defeat the Prussian and United Kingdom. Yeah He did go all the way to Russia, but that was to defeat England (crazy tactic I know), but he wasn't nearly the madmen Hitler was.

The champion by far, Rommel a.k.a The Dessert Fox. Greatest general of all time, had Hitler used him a little better we'd all be speaking German now.

Alright... Patton wasn't a true "War Leader" seeing as he was just a general. However, if he was correct, he automatically wins. A) He handed Erwin Rommel and the entire Third Reich their asses in handbaskets (they were so afraid of him, that, true to the movie, thought that he was leading an attack at Port De Calais to invade, and not an attack at Normandy). Thus, no one can argue Hitler or Rommel. And as I was getting at B) He believed in reincarnation, and thought himself the next life of millions of soldiers and generals, including such greats as Napoleon, Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Caesar, Hannibal, etc, etc. Patton=Win.
Well actually it was the British that handed Rommel his ass at El Alamein, Patton invaded italy alongside the commonwealth forces, and drove through the lightly defended southern part of Europe after D-Day while the Brits and Canadian diversion up north encountered most of the German heavy armour.

And the germans thinking the attack was set to be at the Pas de Calais had nothing whatsoever to do with Patton. It was a combination of british counter intelligence and 617 squadron's radar deception mission to simulate ships heading to that area more than anythnig else.

Not to mention Patton nearly got his head blown off while showboating, nearly got kicked out of the army after striking a private on the face, and died in a car accident. Honestly what kind of war leader dies from a car crash?

Why?
Because he's made out of pure awesome.
Seriously, this man is impressive both as a soldier and as a leader (and I have only started to read his book "Infanterie greift an")
I saw the thread-title and he was the military leader that came immediately to my mind.
But he was emotionally weak,

Mine answer would have to be.....Stone Wall Jackson! The greatest military general in United States history!

Saldin for just being absolutely brilliant.

All he did was split up the opposing force into two groups, round around one group then swing over and wipe out the other one. The only way he ever spruced it up was to go after the group on the left first instead of the right.

In fact, his final defeat in the Battle of Waterloo was against a general(who's name escapes me) that noticed Napoleon's tactics and pretty much won because he kept his forces together and they didn't split apart.

Napoleon was just a tiny bit ahead of the times, since before all they did was stand on either side in rows shooting at each other barely even moving. It was bound to change eventually. Others quickly caught and mimic'd his fighting style after his demise.

Also, Napoleon started the Continental System, which prevented anybody from trading with Britain who had the only industry, making everybody but Britain suffer. When he was nearing victory in the Peninsular War against Portugal and Spain, he went back to France leaving his generals to fight, ending in utter defeat since only Napoleon ever commanded them with the strategies.

When trying to invade Russia in the fall, he kept traveling farther into Russia while the Russians were pulling the scorched earth tactic. When Napoleon made it to Moscow, the Russians just burned it down and refused to surrender. After waiting five weeks, he decided to leave, but it was too late and winter had come. Napoleon lost ~500,000 troops trying to leave against starvation, the cold and Russian onslaughts.

My choice would be Bismark. Does anybody like him? No. Was he an excellent war fighter? YES.

Alexandar the Great. He's not 'The Great' for nothing, he quite literally came out of nowhere to conquer the entire known world. His teacher was Aristotle. Yes, THAT Aristotle, one of the most important philosophers to have ever lived. It's like if Stephen Hawking had a Canadian student who would become Prime Minister and then take over the world.

And unlike a great many of other names being thrown up here, Alexander never lost. He fought and conquered till there was nothing left to conquer, then he died, cementing his place in human history forevermore. In some lands he would be declared a God, in others the Devil himself, but none contested his importance or greatness.

Can't ask for a greater legacy than that! He's more legend than man at this point.

For me its a tie between

Robert E. Lee ( I mean come on he defeated so many of the Union generals. To bad he didn't win the last one)
and
Douglas MacArthur (The man started down low and made it all the way to the top. He also basically invited the amphibious assault tactics we use today.)

Hell yes - Revan is the greatest military leader.

For a title that promises a poll, the original post is useless. It rants about a list of war leaders without ever actually giving the details of that list, and doesn't have a poll. Seriously, OP, what the hell?
