I won't give blood because I'm a wuss and I gag just at the thought of sticking that thing in my arm. Was going to do it at school but I backed out.

I am donating organs when I die though. They'll be more useful to someone else than my decaying corpse.

What if you're an omnisexual virgin? Does that make a difference?

I regularly donate blood (6 times now and I'm 19) but I'm hanging onto my organs til I'm dead. I might need them.

No, but I'm considering donating organs when I die.

Bone marrow donation seems like it hurts a lot though.

No, because I myself am a candidate for a heart transplant. My failing heart kinda screws up the rest of my organs as well so I'm guessing nobody would want them. However, if my organs were healthy I probably wouldn't sign up as an organ doner purely because of the fear that, if I were in an accident and pronounced braindead, that there might have actually been a chance for me to recover but they harvest my insides anyway. But, if the stuff was actually useful, I would gladly donate blood.

I donated my heart to my ex and she broke it!!

I keed, I keed. But I do give blood once a yearish. I don't think I'd give marrow unless it was a personal case though. I'm also blood type AB- which I think is there rare one (it's either that or AB+) so it makes me feel good knowing I helped someone :)

I also have a donor card, but I don't expect to die in the near future.

I'd love to give blood, but I don't actually weigh enough to be able to.

I am a registered organ donator though, they can take what they want to help other people, I'm not going to need them by then

I almost donated bone marrow to this old lady but she died before the took it. :(

This is another area when faith becomes a problem. here in Israel about 10% of the population will not donate organs because their rabbis say it is forbidden, and to top it all they are allowed to receive donations. so you get absurd situations like this one
http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-3961475,00.html
(use google translate or something, its in Hebrew)

when a woman says that even though she just received a lung that saved her life she will declare her self as an organ donor( in Israel one can carry a card that states if and what organs one is willing do donate, although family consent is still needed)

i personaly think it should be mandetory to donate blood and , port mortem of course ,organs.

after all we are all worm food

I'm not donating. I've seen that Monty Python film.

Sure, it's a satirical film, but think for a moment about the underlying point it's making - in many places, if doctors do see that you're an organ donor, they may potentially be more tempted to let you die so they can use your organs elsewhere to save someone else...

I'm an organ donor, but I have no real desire to donate blood. I've had to go to a clinic to get some blood drawn for a surgery once, and while it wasn't an overly aggravating procedure, it wasn't precisely pleasant. I have better things to do with my time than sit in a chair and stare at the wall for half an hour.

I don't donate blood, but I do sell plasma. Yes, I'm an organ donor; if I'm in such a state that nobody would have a problem with doctors harvesting my organs (such as death or a vacation in Tijuana), there's absolutely nothing I'll be needing those damned flesh chunks for. String me up and make a marionette out of my corpse for all I care, I promise I'll let you know if it starts to bother me.

I can't donate blood.

I'm listed as an organ donor should I die, but I don't know how that meshes with the fact that I'm too "high risk" to give blood.

I kinda feel bad for just walking past the blood donation areas that are occasionally at the university I study in.

I would want to donate my body to science or something :p

...If I die, that is <_<

I am squeamish (which is funny 'cause I play violent games and have no trouble getting tattooed) but it is on my bucket list to donate blood. I have a rare blood type so hopefully soon I'll feel comfortable enough to get to the red cross and drop off a pint! As for organs, once I'm dead, I'll have no problem with it but after watching Monty Python's The Meaning of Life a few times, I'm not in a hurry to get one of those cards...

If you are a virgin then your sexual preference doesn't matter for whether or not they will take your blood. And Dogmeat, they have their reasons. There are two massive threads on that issue in Religion and Politics, have a look for them if you want to know more.

As for donating myself, I have donated blood three times in the past two years because it does me no harm at all and it's for a good cause. Bone marrow seems like a massive inconvenience and like it hurts a lot. I'll get around to becoming an organ donor at some point, but I really wish they'd just make it an opt-out system since laziness about doing the paperwork is all that has stopped me from signing up so far.

I donate regularly and I think I'm on all the possible donor registers. It's not for the people though, I do it to get the free tea and teacake at the end. Definitely worth a pint of blood

Heh, you're fine so long as you aren't sexually active. You're not disallowed to give blood because of sexuality per se, it's because they define gay sex as a "high risk activity"

Not going to argue the point, the thrust of my first post in this thread was simply to explain why I don't donate, and to point out that it's unreasonable to ask me to abstain for a year and then fold your arms and tap your foot expecting me to declare myself a celibate if you're not going to enforce the rule on everyone.
