Poll: Books. Who else reads them?

I think I read almost too much, I filled two bookcase's three years ago, and since then have filled the entire room full of books. I can't walk into a bookshop without buying at least one book, and when I start reading I don't stop, unless something extremely loud distracts me, at which point I realise most of the day/night has already gone.
My favourite living author is Terry Pratchett (that man is a genius), closely followed by both Scott Lynch and Patrick Rothfuss. My favourite author of all time is without a doubt Bram Stoker (if Pratchett is a genius then Stoker is a god). Honourable mentions to H.P Lovecraft, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, and Jules Verne. And Tolkien, to not mention Tolkien is a cardinal sin.

I read. I just got into reading graphic novels. I read the Watchmen on and now i'm reading V for Vendetta thanks to a friend lending it to me. I'm also reading a book from the same friend. I don't know why some people hate books.

V for Vendetta is one of those rare occasions where I prefer the movie to the book. In the book V is, well, he's evil! He really is! He's out to stir anarchy for the sake of anarchy regardless of the inevitable death and destruction it would cause.

In the movie he's portrayed as an ultimately altruistic figure using questionable methods. I can empathize with that. But in the book he's a complete psychopath!

Anyway if you're reading comics my personal suggestion would be the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. I dislike one or two of his story arch and some of his characters, but ultimately it's completely worth the ride if only because of the glimpse it gives into the realms of the Endless. Stories like in 'The Sound of Her Wings' are my favorites, where characters simply interact with one another and their personality are given a chance to shine, are my favorites. Certainly worth looking into.

I read a hell of a lot, although now a days that's for my University course.

Apart from that I'll read non-fiction and fictionk, and I'll normally have more than one book going at once.
Right now I'm reading Frank Herbert's Dune, a biography of Teddy Roosevelt and Tony Benn's Political Diaries. And that's not including the multitude of stuff I have to read for Uni.

If you haven't figured it out from the books I've mentioned above, I like reading Sci-Fi, Historical and Political Non-Fiction and Spy stories (Ian Fleming, Alistair MacLean etc.)

My favorite book (well, series) is The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy of 6 by Douglas Adams and Eoin Colfer. The only series of books that have consistently made me fall out of my bed lauging.

Only certain authors. Stephen King mostly, and some Tom Clancy and another guy. Everything else bores me to death. Planning on getting Metro 2033 when they print it in English though.

Sure, we all have hate trains for things like Twilight, or other such but... Thats not really what I'm trying to say. I haven't yet seen a thread for books, so I propose to make one.

People of the Escapist, is reading something you do? If so, what is it? Fiction, non-fiction, whatever gets you going. Me, I like Sci-fi and Fantasy, more precisely Forgotten Realms, John Ringo, Weber, and Mercedes Lackey (and many, many others, being a zealous bibliophile). Anyone else like these, or other books? Heck, anyone have a really good reason for not loking books?

I read, yes. Not quite so rarely as to say I don't read often, but not nearly enough to say I read a lot.

Not too long ago I finished reading Vampire Hunter D. Great story. Mediocre writing. What a shame.

I read a lot. Only non-fiction, however. I like learning things, and reading different perspectives. My wife is into fairy stuff and Twilight, but to me it just feels like a waste, not that I think it is for everyone. I just rather television for my imagination stuff, and print for learning. If I can still get into the house I was going to move to, it has a library in it, so that should be neat. Already packed up 8 boxes of books, and I'm sure I have more in a closet somewhere.

I am reading Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I am 350 pages into it, only 250 or so to go.

i'm a fanatic of the wheel of time series and anything by terry pratchet. Also into a book called sphinx right now.
Stephen king was an author i used to love, but i found once you read a couple of his books there was nothing original really in them.

Sadly its content has decended in to the pit of unremarkable storylines that all books that I think are unremarkable inevitably decend into.

I just got back into reading after a several year hiatus. It feels good on my brain parts.

Same here. The first one I started with was Ender's Game, after hearing people loved it so much. Probably not a great choice to start off with, but I loved it...

Currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Quite enjoyable. I read a little, though not as much as I should.

An excellent choice, I only finished that recently.

OT- I'm always reading something, atm it's Dracula, last week it was Northanger Abbey. The fact that I just got back into gaming after a break is in turn cutting back my reading time. If only there was more hours in a day or I could sleep less.

That's one of my favorites, I once read it through three times in two weeks. Which translation are you reading, or do you know enough French to read the original (I wish I did)?

I read quite a lot. Just a few days ago I read Zen and the Birds of Appetite and I'm in the middle of A Brief History of Time. Next Friday I plan to read The Narrow Road to the Deep North (in translation, obviously) and I've been meaning to reread Rumo and His Miraculous Adventures again. Next time I have a break from my classes I intend to read a rather large volume on prehistoric fishes which I discovered recently.

"a LOT" though I tend to prefer the genres of "high" fantasy or Sci-fi.
R.A. Salvatore is my current favorite guy, with Brian Jacques, an old favorite, not too far back in second.
