Seconded.

I am highly disturbed someone of my sex would say we shouldn't care if women are objectified because it will change nothing....
I guess with that attitude it's probably true.
I'm not too much of an optimist, but it's no good lying to myself either. The woman's body has been an object of beauty and lust probably since the beginning of time.
And I don't see how being female myself should sway that notion. It's not like woman as a whole have never objectified themselves.

Men will have unrealistic and high standards with or without the eye-candy in their games.
I don't really get this part, though.
If you mean "Dudes, in general, want ladies who look like models/celebrities," you may in fact be right.
Which is extra depressing. Combo!
But high standards aren't anything to complain about.

If anything, I wish people had higher standards anymore.
And self-respect, I guess.
I am tired and rambling.
Perhaps I should of left it at unrealistic. I basically meant the same thing when I said high standards.

Also, with your post count, I surprised you're not tired of posting, nevermind rambling.

What would the point in breasts be?
"OMG this game has bewbz! LET'S GET IT!"
Would you expect something along those lines? No you would not.

Besides, there's a few games out there that actually do have the occasional busty woman.
God of War, Oblivion, Grand Theft Auto...
Oh, and Dead Rising. =D

I'm all for equality, hence why I voted yes. However, I think that adding breasts would only pour more gas on the fire that is video game controversy; if violence is blamed on violent video games, soon rape and other sex-related crimes could be blamed on games featuring breasts.

Here's something that we might look forward to if boobs got into games: Fox News Special Coverage.

It wouldn't really matter. Or It doesn't really matter to me anyway. Just get a girlfriend or go watch some of your mums porn if you want to see tits that bad.

I don't play games to be aroused.

Okay, with a thread like this, firstly you have to clarify what country's censorship you're talking about as it varies from country to country.

I live in Australia where it's fairly common to see naked female breasts in both an M and an R movie, but I'm yet to see any exposed breasts in any (commercially available) computer game ever. And Australia doesn't have an R for games yet, it only goes up to MA which is 15+, because our government is still full of old crusties who think games are only for kids.

Generally I would like to see more tits and less violence in all media across the board. American-style censorship where any amount of violence is okay for anyone to see, even real-life killing is fine, but an exposed nipple is a bannable offense (think YouTube - I can watch soldiers get shot and die on YouTube but I can't watch a naked female breast anywhere) really bothers me.

As for objectification, well... women are sex objects (as are men, too). That doesn't mean that they're not also people, or that they're somehow "disrespected" or whatever (although they might be, but that's a separate issue which has nothing to do with the actual "objectification" itself). Feminist arguments of "objectification" topple like a house of cards when you realise that every human is a sexual object and we all objectify each other, daily. There's nothing wrong with celebrating that, and most women I know are quite happy to celebrate the beauty of their bodies, and quite happy to receive compliments about their appearance, when done so in the correct spirit (i.e genuinely, as opposed to being a sleazy dickhead). That doesn't mean that I think any less of them as a person, or that they are somehow degraded... quite the opposite, actually... "objectification" of either gender is excellent, has existed ever since the first caveman drew a pair of boobs and a penis on a cave wall with a piece of charcoal, and is only going to increase as technology increases and new ways to objectify people are thus created for both sexes to enjoy. I suggest we embrace the new rather than fight it.

Huh.
You once implied that I should play cooking games because I'm a girl, so I figured you knew. :p

I think she means that men expect women to look like models/celebrities/porn-stars.
And also that there's nothing to be done about it.
Which is ridiculous.
If everyone just says "Oh well, there's nothing we can do about it," then yeah, nothing will be done about it.
I definitely wish there was a little more self-respect (and gender-respect?) going around.
Higher standards can be a good thing in some circumstances, but when guys have "high standards" in regards to a woman's body because of the media telling everyone what a woman should look like, I become upset.

I agree with the general public on this. Games should be able to include it if they want, but it isn't like it is that important or even sexual. It is just the simple fact that they should be allowed to include it if they feel it necessary for the story (or to attract the customers who want that kind of thing I guess...).

I have extremely high physical standards for a girlfriend, after all why should I settle for less than exactly what I want? However, what achieves my "standard" definitely isn't the same thing that makes a woman a supermodel or a popular actress. For instance, there's no amount of money you could pay me to make me sleep with Angelina Jolie, she's gross. My girlfriend is far hotter than that. My standards are my own, they don't come from any media.

Well, we all saw boobs in the God of War games. So, I guess they are allowed. They just don't get put into games that often.

There are boobs in God Of War? I didn't know this. We've come further than I thought. I should buy a console...

I'm not denying that what you described happens, as it very obviously does. You just made it sound like you don't care, or that you do care but find no use in defending your position. I happen to care very much about the subject, as I hate being objectified and constantly told how I should look in order to be considered attractive. And yes, some women do objectify themselves though I personally believe it's because they are not confident in themselves and think they need to behave in a certain way to gain male approval. Of course, if they truly love objectifying themselves and being objectified, I have no qualms with their decision. I would just never feel okay about myself if I were to do so.

Yup. There are boobs in God of War. Both one and two. They'll most likely be in three as well.

Some might expect it, but I more so imply that men would much rather have that than settling for something less than their ideals. And there is nothing you can do about that.
That is simply just how men - no, people think, and standards among them are all different. Chances are that they'll never be with someone perfect that they have fantasizing about for their lives.

There is nothing wrong with being upset about it. It is depressing. I admit that it's worse for women, but don't act like men are never objectified either.

God I wish I was an emo kid so I had easy access to that kind of stuff.
They're easily accessible enough. Just go to your doctor and be like, "I'm DEPRESSED."
And auto-subscription!

I never said that all guys want what the media projects. I know that there are guys with completely different tastes. In my experience, however, many guys do want a girl that looks like a model, even if they "settle" for something lesser (my male friends talk about their girlfriends and such when I'm around). I guess what I really meant is that quite a few guys I've known date girls purely on their looks and body, while completely disregarding personality, beliefs, and interests - and that is what truly bothers me.

...Oh, that was you?
Have you changed your avatar since then?

Anyway, I can't comment on the last part.
I can name...
Three attractive female celebrities.
And about ten males.

I find something wrong with that ratio, as I am not actually gay.

Point being, I don't get why most guys find models and celebrities "hot."

I have absurdly high (impossibly high, actually,) standards, but they're...
Different...
I guess.

Now I have to go find some anti-depressants or something.
God I wish I was an emo kid so I had easy access to that kind of stuff.
I didn't have an avatar before. I just set one recently because I was having a hard time finding what I had originally said in posts I'd been quoted on without finding the link in my profile. Now I can locate myself. Joy.

I find a few celebrities attractive. The ratio between male and female is probably about equal. Attraction (for me) is often based on personality and various traits I highly value in a guy. Looks inevitably play a part, but a guy doesn't need to be a "hottie" for me date him. He does have to meet other criteria (for example, I will never again date a smoker).

Just tell your doctor you're depressed, you don't have to be emo to get anti-depressants.
The world would be a scary place if that were true.
