Anybody here have an idea on the release date?
11 february 2011

Its like I'm a one stop shop for BulletStorm info.
Huh, the gamestop website has a different date. 11 days later...
The actual date givin in the videos released by Epic stated 2 Feb originally, could have changed though to give it room against another shooter out during that month.

I've always been a fan of the unrealistic shooters... simply because realistic shooters try so hard to be realistic they end up being unrealistic instead. Like CoD.... fuck CoD, fuck MoH, I want to have FUN when playing a shooter... and that's exactly what this game looks like... FUN.

Allow me to quote myself:
I was just referring off as FPS's that try to pass themselves as ""hardcore"".
Borderlands tried to pass off as hardcore...
But if you were referring to "ONLY REAL GAMERS LIKE WAR FPS AND ANYTHING ELSE IS PATHETIC! MANLY MEN LIKE HALO AND CoD!" then yes, there is a slump there. Sadly, those two statements have been latched onto by marketing departments and we get the "gritty, realistic, war shooter"
I like my war shooters like this:
Screw you, realism
*yes, I'm a star wars fan. Yes, I know this was made in 2005. Yes, I still love it
There have been to many war shooters, and I've had trouble getting a new FPS experience.
MAG applied a twist to the formula, and AvP ignored it, but sadly, they didn't have the player support for constant online matches, and AvP had some crippling flaws. They got thrown aside in favor of the next war game.
Now, would I be kicked into a cactus if I said I was looking forward to Medal of Honor?

I want innovation, too, but some of the comments on here are hilarious. "Save the FPS"?

Yes, I distinctly recall Activision and Infinity Ward saying, "Please, please! Save us from these bucketfulls of money the gaming public insists on throwing at us! Save us! We're floundering from lack of interest in our fastest-selling game of all time!!"

You guys are a bit melodramatic. If you don't like the way they make current FPSs, play another genre, and quit your crying. If enough people do likewise, then they'll stop making these games you despise so much.

There are several innovative FPSs on the market right now, and the rest are copycats. That is how it has always been, and that is how it will always be. If every single game was unique, then there wouldn't be an entry for "generic" in the dictionary. One game isn't going to change that.

I think you're being a bit too serious.

Eeeeehhhh. Dunno.

It gives me a distinct impression of trying too hard.

I can see what they are aiming for, and if they hit the mark then, yeah, it may well be good. But i just can't shake the notion that they took an awesome over-the-top concept then smeared it with all the crappiest aspects of Gear of War.

Also, it risks falling into the trap of all games that focus on spectacles rather then obstacles. See, it's hard to provide enough variety to fill 10+ hours of gameplay. Especially when the only string to your bow is "kill people". Let's be absurdly optimistic and Imagine that they provide 50 different methods to dispatch an enemy. By the time you're halfway through the game you will have done each one 10 times or more. Eventually you end up with something like Madworld where you're just going through the motions.

Regardless, I will certainly look into in when it comes out, but for the moment I am prepared to be disappointed.

Looks very Crysis.

Bulletstorm. An end to the FPS slump? No. Part of the FPS slump? Yes.

Or maybe your definition of FPS slump is different from mine.

At least it is up-front about what it is (pulp).

I think a lot of people are going to be pretty disappointed in Bulletstorm. It's certainly not going to save the world or whatever you're expecting. It's most likely not going to revolutionize the money-printing shooter genre either. It looks like fun. I'll probably grab a copy and put some hours into it, but it won't take long for me to move on unless the final game has significantly more depth and variety than they're letting on.

Well, to be entirely honest I don't think the problem with the FPS genere is that everyone is trying to emulate a handfull of successful games. I simply think it's a pretty basic form of gaming and is getting to be worn out due to general over production. I don't think it will ever disappear, and due to the ease of production we're likely to see plenty of attempts to make successful ones despite a slump, however I think it's very much suffering the same burn out that fighting games did when everyone was trying to emulate "Street Fighter" and "Mortal Kombat".

Looking at Bulletstorm it looks pretty typical to me, you've basically got shooting, a melee attack/kick mapped to another button, and apparently a physics gun type abillity that doesn't require a device that lets you move and throw opponents.

The killer plants bit is a unique take on the genere it seems though, moving away from the demons, undead, and space aliens you see everywhere else.

That said, I'll be very surprised if this goes anywhere despite what seems to be a relatively fresh idea for a bestiary/rogues gallery.

Simply my opinion though, I've never been a huge shooter fan.

I put for the poll the third option, because that's what I originally thought. I saw the third video. HOOLEEY FU- that looks intensely epic! I agree, it looks very much like it'll try and go against the system. I damn well hope it succeeds.

The GAME looks fun but the voice acting and characters are, quite frankly, retarded. I mean, "you scared the dick off me"? Really? What grade are we in now? I know it's being billed as "over the top and overly macho" however, besides jazz jackrabbit, is there a single fucking game that Cliffy B. can make that DOESN'T fit this category?

Looks good, but I'm not going to get too into it until I get a chance to try it out myself. But it is by the geniuses behind Painkiller, so this could very well be worth it.
