Take those 2 devs...You get my shooter heaven.
What, your not going to like Call of Duty IX: Modern Warfare V when it comes out?[small]/sarcasm [/small]Ninjamedic said:That's exactly what I was thinking.Master_Spartan117666 said:I hope it saves the FPS genre from the countless remakes, ripoffs and retreads of the same ground.
I agree with you. I don't really see how Call of Duty sells anymore since it's been done and done alot. I'm really bored with the shooters. In fact, probably the only shooters I'm now looking forward to (possibly ever be looking forward to) are shooters with a twist or that aren't in modern age/WW2/WW1 (Portal, RD:R for the PC, Bulletstorm and so on).Rewold said:I'm tired of just shooting people down until they are all dead. Maybe someone should create a story for a FPS that can match with the top RPG game's stories! I don't know anything specific about the game's story but isn't one of the points of the game to have fun using different creative methods of killing enemies? That doesn't amuse me for long. I think the FPS genre needs a big change. Like many say that JRPGs need a big change to become likable again.
Your sarcasm was unnecessary >_> I'm talking about weapon usage more than sheer number of weapons. For instance, unreal tournament's flak cannon could be used like a shotgun; but, if that's all you used it for, you would be missing the point entirely. Through its two firing modes, the weapon's usability increased immensely. Or take the shock rifle. If you used it as a hitscan sniper rifle, you'd be missing its point entirely. That's the kind of creativity in weaponry that is 1) missing in today's modern shooters and 2) necessary in bulletstorm for it to claim the throne of competitive fps gaming.Ninjamedic said:I also hope this. I'm fed up of only being able to choose between 8 weapons.Wayneguard said:I would like to see more weapon variety though. I realize that barely any footage is out for this game so I can cut it some slack; but, unreal tournament was a major innovator when it was released because of the insane weapons and alt fires. Bulletstorm needs to at least match that.
This is exactly what happens to every other form of medium out there. There is one great idea, say FPS, or in the case of movies: Vampires, that makes a lot of money, then everyone wants to do it and cash in, pretty soon the market becomes flooded and people get tired of it. Then it eases off for a while and other stuff gets made. Then when there is a lull people see that it can make a comeback and we see the gradual over-saturation again. We're at about the point where people are getting sick of the FPS's comeback, so...Therumancer said:Well, to be entirely honest I don't think the problem with the FPS genere is that everyone is trying to emulate a handfull of successful games. I simply think it's a pretty basic form of gaming and is getting to be worn out due to general over production.
Although you did sum up the game pretty well...Therumancer said:it will ever disappear, and due to the ease of production we're likely to see plenty of attempts to make successful ones despite a slump.
Therumancer said:Looking at Bulletstorm it looks pretty typical to me, you've basically got shooting, a melee attack/kick mapped to another button, and apparently a physics gun type abillity that doesn't require a device that lets you move and throw opponents.
The killer plants bit is a unique take on the genere it seems though, moving away from the demons, undead, and space aliens you see everywhere else.
That said, I'll be very surprised if this goes anywhere despite what seems to be a relatively fresh idea for a bestiary/rogues gallery.
So it's not ok to think it looks generic (because in my opinion it kinda does) but it is ok to think it's some kind of FPS-messiah? Huh.masterblaze0 said:I think it's precisely what the FPS genre needs right now.
I also wish people would stop assuming it's going to suck or be generic.
