@OP:
Oh dear, where to start:

- Trying to "win" some discussion (which includes "proving" something) is stupid and useless, unless one thinks of a discussion as some kind of sport. Yes, i know that a lot of people do that - they're all idiots, bored or have mental/emotional deficits that they need to compensate at the cost of others. You ask "Why discuss then?" Well, for example to mutually increase each others understanding - to mutually grow.

- There is no external judge. Every single participant in the discussing is a judge about his own worldview. Thus, it is impossible anyways to mindrape force someone else to accept something. The only thing that may be achievable is just pissing someone off enough that he/she's driven out of the discussion (those who consider discussion a sports game, equate this with "winning", even though the person that was driven away will probably think of the "winner" as an asshole and hasn't changed his/her "opinion" a bit - quite probably strengtened it instead)

- For each "judge", an opinion (which basically is just a synonym for "thesis") can of course be right, wrong, true and untrue.

So in summary: There is no "external judge" for ANYTHING. Neither for opinions or anything else. What happens simply is that people exchange information, and everyone involved rates the info according to what he thinks make sense. With this, i do NOT mean that everything is "subjective" (as in, there's a parallel world in everyone). All used arguments do of course have a general "correct" value - but since everyone can rate however he/she wants, there is no way to force how someone should rate - or in short: You cannot act in place of someone else. You are you, he is him.

Opinions are entirely subjective, so naturally any relevance of fact is optional.

For example in my opinion world peace is just an ideal and is impossible to achieve since people have different viewpoints and global unity requires everyone to agree to the same agenda. This may or may not be proven true, even though the example given has strong backup.

also pman, i would like to say you did a good job on the pull, 3 choices, yes no, mabye/i dont know, nice and simple with out any personal spin, the way a pull should be done, unlike the other 95% of the pulls on these forums were people add a lot of fluff and add spins to the answers which makes the results unreliable, like the yes being some thing dumb related to the pull but not a yes, like the bdsm one that cropped up today , there was no; yes no , or yes i prefer to be top, yes i prefer to be bottom,

in my opinion this thread wins in my books, just cause you did not fuck your pull up like every one else does.

#1 "Starbucks coffee is great!"

This is untestable and therefore an opinion free from right and wrong.

#2 "A majority of Americans think Starbucks coffee is great!"

This is theoretically entirely testable and is an opinion that can be proven wrong.

So yes, yes it can.

(Just trying to understand what you're saying here) So since anything stated is only true/false to the person observing it, then what is "fact"?

I got into an internet debate with a pervert once that was of the opinion that it was okay to be sexually attracted to children as long as one didn't act on it. So yes, an opinion can be sick and wrong.

cant say hes wrong, but in my opinion he should be shot and killed if he ever acted on it :p thankfully violence trumps words in such matters.

child rapist first offense = death penalty, rapes first offense, prison time second offense = death penalty, that includes raping people in prison, if you rape some one in prison, death penalty if its your second offense.

But that is morally okay. It's not like it's an urge that he chose to have. Yes it's sick and disturbed but it's not his fault and his opinion is that he's a good person as long as he doesn't act on those urges. I'd say he's right.

hitler was a black Jewish gypsy gay retarded disabled person.

p.s. hitler wasn't a fan of Christianity ether, and thought the catholic church influence is partly to blame for the Germans not taking over the world sooner, but he pandered to them a lot during the war, so not polar opposite enough for him to be it, in my opinion

Of course they can.

"My opinion is that people from New Zealand all have three legs".

That's not true. Yet it can still be an opinion.
Maybe not in THIS dimension.

The opinion "The laws of physics can be broken" is false no matter what I believe

Yes, especially if from Jack Thompson.

...Serious Joke aside, only if the opinion is on a stated fact. You can't disagree with me if my opinion is that french silk pie is better than apple pie (Though you can call me un-American)
However, you can say my opinion is wrong if I believe that all J-
Okay, nevermind. Even thinking that makes me sick.

Try this: You can say my opinion is wrong if I believe all people who live on islands to be technologically impaired idiots who managed to wreck themselves on an island after reading Robinson Crusoe. (Defier- Okinawa, Cuba, and technically, all the continents are really just massive islands.)

There's two classes of opinions: Valid and invalid.

A valid opinion has some basis in fact and is a reasonable conclusion that, while you may not personally agree, is understandable. So, say, I like using the fully upgraded shotgun in Bioshock 1 because it is an effective weapon with a visceral kick and some range and the specialty ammo is handy in a range of situations. My friend, on the other hand, goes full wrench-jockey, and spends a lot of tonics to optimize things that this works for him, and likes the feel of impact and likes blindsiding someone so they drop in one hit. Even though it is not my preferred style, I can understand his reasons for playing that way.

An invalid opinion is...oh, hating Metroid Prime 1 for not playing like Halo, or being in a bad mood because the sky is blue and hydrogen only has one electron. An invalid opinion may have no basis in fact, or in fact, contradict facts. If the facts cited as evidence can be proven to be objectively wrong, the opinion is invalid and it behooves you to revise your worldview so it more closely resembles reality.
