I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you, they put the 'UI that was formally known as Metro' onto Windows Server 2012.

Yep.

Thanks to my fathers rants about MS ever since I was was little I've always had a dislike for them.

So they never had my 'trust' in the first place.

I never trusted Microsoft.

It's an American thing I' ll never understand, trusting faceless corporations.
yes, sure. That's why Japan's top selling consoles and games earlier this year were 3DS and Nintendo games [http://megagameshub.com/2013/04/10/console-sales-drop-in-japan-week-ending-7th-april-3ds-still-on-top/]. Because Americans are the only people ever to do that.

On topic, my xbox RRoD on me for that last time earlier this year. I miss my fighters, but the 360 was a shoddy piece of shit that I do not feel like spending money on. In fact, the one thing I wanted Microsoft to address was their failure to submit a working product and their promises and assurances that this would never happen again.

Microsoft will find that the idea of them being more evil and incompetent than the 80's Skeletor hard to shake. Think about how many people(even on this forum) think Nintendo is about to go bust because of of a poor start to the WiiU and 3DS compared to the astronomical success of their respective predictors.

I'm still holding out for an XBone without a mandatory Kinect. If that never comes, then I guess I'll never be getting an XBone.

Yep.
The "they will like what we tell them to like" attitude is for more than just the gaming division, it seems.

I don't think that's blind trust. I think that's "buying things people want that are marketed to them."

No, I cannot justify the system failures and 4 dead wireless controllers. I just can't. They lost me when they stopped caring about the long term quality of their products.
I'm surprised they were never called out more on this. Not that people didn't let them have it over the massive system failure rate, but rather how they're always praised for the business decision of beating Sony to market by a year... but aren't these two things inherently related?

Anyways when talking about this sort of thing in a gaming environment I always find there's a bit of an age gap involved. To gamers around the age of 20, their first experience with the Microsoft brand was likely through the Xbox and they view the company in a positive light. They've also only known a Microsoft that has had real competition in Apple and Google, plus in the game industry Sony. But to those of us that are more 30+, you really need to add the poll option "Microsoft never had my trust". They're a ruthless corporation that have utilized their dominant position in the OS market to strong arm both their competition and the consumer. If you want to see a great example of something within the past 10 years just look up the OOXML fiasco and how badly they butchered the international standards board (or whatever it's called).

From my point of view the botched Xbox One reveal wasn't so much a screw up on Microsoft's part but rather an unveiling of their true selves to an unsuspecting audience. Surely they have a lot of good people in their gaming department but they still have to answer to their corporate bosses.
Will do! Wish I would've put the option there in the first place.

I can dream, since I know it will never happen in reality. The realist in me is hoping more games support linux.

I lost all expectations for them after vista, though it started with XP.

Between the Red Ring of Death and the fact that the 360 system seems to be less and less about games, I don't like the direction Microsoft has been heading the past few years. The XB1 was just a confirmation of what I've felt for a while. Now they're just "company that doesn't make things I'm interested in" as opposed to "company actively trying to screw over consumers". One's certainly better than the other, but not enough to convince me to get the system.

With the XBox One? That's currently highly unlikely.

With Windows 8? We'll see. If they listen to their users, and allow me to deal with ONE OS at a time and not, what, one-and-a-half, absolutely.

As for everyone moving everything to the cloud - I really expect the shitstorm of all shitstorms to get us out of that one very annoying bubble. The sooner, the better.

If Microsoft starts acting at least as decent toward their costumers as their competitors, I'll be willing to spend money on a Microsoft console. (Currently though, I couldn't care less about any of the new consoles)

So if your definition of "trust" is willing to buy a product than yes, its possible I'll start to "trust" Microsoft again.

It's a giant company. You can only trust them to make as much profit as they can, that's what companies do. I don't trust them to give consumers what they want or need. But I trust them to listen to consumers when they feel they to, to make more profit.

They have simply never had my trust. I run Windows 7, which is admittedly a pretty decent OS, for gaming. Other than that, I use Linux for work, and various other open sourced programs for my needs. I have never owned an Xbox system of any vintage.

It is not like I hate MS, it is just that I feel they have a monopoly on a large portion of the computer software industry, and this never works out good for consumers, so I choose to use them as little as possible.

It doesn't matter what they do, they could literally reverse everything that people don't like.
The fact is they showed the world that this is what they want their policies to be. The only reason they changed was because it was a risk to their profits but as soon as they get a grip on enough people they'll do another reversal and put back all the horrible plans.

I think you just redefined the word grudge.

Anyway I think trusting any company is stupid. I'm a Valve fanboy as hardcore as they come, I still don't trust valve worth shit.

Nope. Nada. Ning. Nine. They've done everything that I thought was impossible because how stupid it would have been. I remember when Jim released that episode 'Why DRM would be a dumb dumb dumb' and I was relieved because everything that I imagined that would come with it was acknowledged making the very idea absurd. But low and behold, they were actually happy to update us with these terrible ideas.

They'll need to stop the mandatory Kinnect bullshit before I can even consider buying one ever. And if they eventually drop it, then I will still be watching news to see if any more retarded crap pops up.
