WOOT WOOT! U S A! Hopefully the US doing so well in the Olympics will translate into more interest in the NHL in america. Such a great sport that is the Rodney Dangerfield of sports. Don't get no respect.

I'm kind of surprised that Canada lost but it doesn't matter to me that much.

2)The United States played a fantastic game, but so did Canada - what it came down to was freaking shitty officiating (angry fan-boy scapegoating), but in all fairness, it was largely Smith completely out playing Brodeur. However, it was nice to see Smith being so classy about it after the match - I really have no hard feelings against the guy, he's clearly very humble and genuinely nice, so I feel happy for him and his team.
Smith? None of the goalies in the tournament are named Smith. I hope you meant Ryan Miller. He stole that game.

But yeah, where the hell was Luongo? I think they should've went with Roberto Luongo after Brodeur had an average game against the Swiss. We should be able to handle Germany, then it's on to Russia after that. The Russia game will be quite a test.

Because quite a few players on the USA team are from Minnesota, the only place that rivals Canada for hockey greatness. We sell out high school hockey games in the same arena the pros play in.

Besides, either team can still win the gold.

Meh. I don't watch hockey, and I don't care. I love being Canadian, I just don't give a shit about sports. Plus, basing a countries reputation on how well their sports teams play is a complete crock of shit.

that is a good point, and something to look at. i look at sports as a way to get more pride in my country.

Who cares, it's the bloody Olympics.

On a side note, they postponed the pro hockey season for what is now something very few people really care about. The whole Vancouver Olympics has been charlie foxtrot from the beginning anyway (who ever heard of a winter Olympics where they had to ship in snow and they only had ONE Zamboni and it broke down.)

Wow, that was some typo - I'm not sure what I was thinking there.

Anyway, Germany will definitely be a big test for Luongo - if he performs as well as he did against Norway, then there should be no reason for Canada to not put him in net against Russia. Sure, Brodeur has the history, but that clearly didn't do much either tonight, or against Switzerland.

As a Canadian, and avid hockey fan. I FUCKING LOVED IT. I personally hate the canadian sports media; "Canada will win gold, only the Russians are a competition" "We're the best in the world"

Honestly. We came 4th in Nagano, 1st in Salt Lake, 7th in Torino, and now because we lost laughably can't finish higher than 6th in round robins. WE AREN'T THE BEST! WAKE UP CANADA, WE AIN'T SHIT!

Hopefully, some canadians will learn a lesson from this, but likely not.

FUCKING. ASSHOLE. OFFICIALS. They ignore fucking obvious infractions by the Americans, including a goalie interference that led to Yank Goal #3, and an American player JUMPING ON A CANADIAN PLAYERS' BACK right before the empty-net goal, BEFORE HE TOUCHED THE FUCKING PUCK. Yes, Brodeur and Crosby suck, especially Brodeur trying to play FUCKING BASEBALL, but it was mostly the FUCKING SHITTY officiating.

/end RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE
I KNOW! Brodeur played the puck way too much. He really is the reason we lost. Canada dominated everywhere except for goalies. I don't know why Babcock didn't pull him and put Luongo in. Maybe we would have won then. Also, way too many ignored penalties for the US.

My initial reaction to the news was to stand up in the restaurant I was watching the game in and scream "TAKE THAT YOU DIRTY, MAPLE-SYRUP-EATING, BEAVER-RAPING CANUCKS!"

Then I was escorted outside by a pair of nice men in white coats.

That i don't understand.. USA has just as many professional hockey players as Canada, anyone who knows anything about hockey would realize it was going to be a close game regardless of what the media said would happen, the only "smug" that could possibly come across is the stereotype that we as Canadians must be godly at hockey because its cold here and we have a lot of snow? Which also isn't true..

Ryan Miller proved without a doubt that the US were no underdogs seeing as how he made a joke of a hockey great, Brodeur. We out shot the US 2 to 1, as the news cast said during the game, we were dominating them, not just in the 3rd, it just doesn't count for much when none of those shots go in (Ryan miller grrr) and the US can get a goal out of the first 3 shots.

As an American, I'm obviously happy that we got some glory in an underdog win. Reminded me of Miracle on Ice, obviously.

Except for the teensy fact that our opponents were Canadians, who, despite sometimes being mind-bogglingly frustrating (I know, the feeling's plenty mutual), are people that I find almost innately likable.

Had it been France, Russia or New Jersey, I would simply revel. :p
