Its a bit hard to care about victories in ice hockey when you don't care about ice hockey. I do like Canadians though. But I give to much grief to americans already so I shouldn't now. I'm just gonna say I'm indifferent and move on to another thread.

OT: Wow. The Canadians lost a hockey match to the USA? I'm no hockey fan but Canada is known over here in Blighty for it's hockey players. Still not that bothered by it though. The only I watch of the Winter Olympics is the Boarder-X. Or whatever it's called.

I couldn't see it live because of that time zone crap. I was going to see the rerun this afternoon. Now the score is spoiled and I'm a sad panda. Still, match should be cool to watch. Ice hockey is pretty brutal.

Round Robin game. Fairly meaningless in the long run.

Whether the game is meaningless in the long run or not isn't the point. It's the shattering of preconceived notions that makes this hilarious.

The Americans do have two gold medals in hockey, and are also stacked with NHL players (like Canada) so you can never completely discount them.

But Canada has seven gold medals in hockey and actually seem to care about the sport. Finding people who give a ruddy shit about hockey here in the United States is quite the task and can only be found in very specific regions at best. Ice hockey is Canada's national sport though. They actually care and they got beat. That's what makes me laugh. How the US won something like this that actually matters to those they beat and yet so few of us really care about it in the least. Those of us who do care, only do so because we beat Canada. If it had been anyone else we wouldn't care.

It really came down to a hot goalie shutting down Canada's offense. And a few bad penalties for the Canadians.

that I can admit. the team USA goalie was a beast. Didn't he stop three successive shots at the goal that all came about in almost under a minute? That's skill.

We beat Canada in the Sport they invented that we as a country don't feel strongly about.

You should see my annual family hockey tournament (2 weekends away woo-hoo!)

I've had an Uncle get two minor penalties, a misconduct and then thrown out of a game (he was a wee bit...over-stimulated). Two cousins were kicked out of one game for fighting. Another cousin completely leveled a guy for a punch earlier in the game (the guy was flattened). Please note, these are non-contact, "friendly" games.

Well dont only USA and Canada play that as a sport already (I mean a popular one like football (soccer) base ball and the like).
So its not that much of a surprise to me that USA can beat Canada, but I guess sad for Canada.
