A vote for a flying city that never enters a countries airspace. So it floats around the oceans of the world. So to avoid any conflict of interest or bias or anything like that. But i would think it would all depend on which country unites the world beneath them. So say the US through war and treaties bring the world under their control they would big the capitalin the US like Washington or New york.

But if china did it then the capital would be in china somewhere.

San Francisco is the melting pot inside a melting pot. It's where the UN was founded and where the United Federation of Planet has its headquarters.

Shanghai. 21 million people: a centre for world economy. Great public transport... 2 hours from where I live.
Yeah, but a world capitol should have a certain reputation and fame about it.

When people thing "World's most well known cities" they think things like Tokyo, London, and NYC
Shanghai is on the exact same level as Tokyo, NYC and London in terms of world fame.
No way, when people think "most famous cities" there is NO WAY they think of NYC first as often as they think of Shanghai first.

I would say somewhere in Australia however that would be bias for two reasons, one, I live there, and two, Why the hell would you ever want to do that we are quite literally not connected to anyone so we are always the last to get the news, What is this thing you people call the wheel, well what I guess I'm trying to say is definitely not australia I would probably choose Tokyo or somewhere in America seeing as they're the cool kids who wear the latest clothes that their billionaire parents bought for them.

I think we need to pick a place that is easily recognizable but also equally culturally diverse. Suggestions?

Pass. If mankind will one day be civilised enough to forego the 19th century concept of nation-states, I highly doubt that they will choose the least civilised corner of our planet as its centre.
Least civilised? Please...

Simplest solution since no-one is ever going to agree: every four years a different city in the world becomes the World's Capital...

Like many others have said, probably no existing capital would be THE capital. Frankly, I would like to see all of them become "capitals" - or have the Capital rotate every 10 years to a number of different cities.

If I had to pick one and only one and an existing city on Earth, TODAY, I'd pick.... New York because of the location of the UN building. But I stress that NY as a Global Capital of a "united earth" would not make much sense - if the world was united under one government, surely they could pool resources together to create a separate, special, guarded city for the sole purpose of administration?

London.

It's on an island and at one point it they did try to unite the earth. Also, I don't want it in my country.

Antarctica, so we don't have to ***** about the country it's build.
Damn straight! Only problem is that I think one of the UN countries owns it already. Still, nice idea.

Well to be fair to all existing cultures we would have to make a new city!

It would be in the middle of some ocean on a man made island and we would call it Pickleland!

Or to be really crazy, have it in space.
