I very rarely use actual cheat codes, but I do sometimes use a walkthrough or FAQ for a single-player game.

I used to cheat all the time in offline games. Then I got older, and more skilled, and figured out it was more fun without the cheats.
Me too, I used to be pitiful at games when I was younger, and here I am now playing with handicaps on very hard.

But is that irrespective of the genre? I could beat Age of Empires (Any of them) on the hardest level without cheating. Any game requiring reflexes or pinpoint accuracy though I struggle on the easy levels which is why I tend to not play them!

I cheat, but only offline, and when I find something to difficult to do in a game, or I need some replay value. But I cheat a lot, not just "sometimes" as stated in your poll.

In most games I don't cheat, but in games like Saints Row 2, it's just so much more fun to play with cheats, in SR2 it's just so much fun to have youre mate stick a satchel charge on youre head and run to the police.

I used to cheat, I stopped when I started buying my own games and getting straight through them with level skip, not a good choice after spending £30 when you're 12

Rarely, offline only. Usually once I've beaten a game and there's someone/something in it I really want to devastate; if there's a code that seems like it'd make the game more interesting; or during incredibly annoying parts to make them go by faster.

The old GTA games where you could just put god mode on and full arsenal and just go on a rampage. Those were the days.

closest thing I do to cheating is sliding the difficulty bar to easy to get past boring bits quicker (i.e. oblivion gates)

cheating online is inexcuseable

I cheat offline every now and again but I generally stay away from cheating online. That's not to say I've never cheated online, I got one of the golden weapons in CoD4 a really shady way, not the cage match glitch, and if you could tricky jumps like getting on top of buildings and onto ledges you shouldn't be able to I'm guilty of that as well.

I don't cheat when playing online, that's just wrong.

I sometimes cheat in RTS/FPS if I find them boring, or just plain want to have fun.

I often cheat in the GTA games, for the lulz, as they say. But i never save my progress afterwards. It's just to go on a killing spree or whatever.

Sometimes, offline.
If it's something I know I could do, but can't be bothered to spec the time getting it. (ie money)

I've cheated in Grand Theft Auto games (Oh come on.. like everyone else hasn't?) But that's strictly offline, and after I've completed the story.

Offline sometimes, but only 'for the lulz' and not to beat the game. I lost that habbit (cheating to win the game, or make it easier) when I was still playing The Sims. After spamming rosebud and stuff, getting a huge house, crap like that, I always felt unsatisfied. I realised that cheating to make things easier also makes it boring, no challenge whatsoever. So then I just thought "fuck this" and I had a much better time with The Sims, building the best looking houses for the lowest amount of money (I never liked the part where I actually played with a Sim, I loved making houses), that made the game a lot more fun. Sure I don't play The Sims anymore (it was just too easy), but the mentality stuck.

I sometimes cheat in Pokemon; giving myself infinite money and rare candies, which I use to EV train Pokemon. However, I don't cheat by giving my Pokemon max IVs, desired natures and things like that. I do that naturally.

I tend to do it offline, but I usually limit myself to just the crazy cheats.
