I can't work out why some PC gamers need to boycott everything they don't like, and the console crowd (now united against the PC elitists) are generally a lot more laid back about everything.
What do you suggest people do with products they don't like, then? Buy the game and then ***** about it? Since all a boycott really is is not buying something and making it clear why you aren't doing so.

And quitting PC gaming because some guys aren't buying a game makes little to no sense unless you're an Activision employee.

There comes a time, young padawan, when ye too will groweth up, and begin to feed thyself, wherein you will (hopefully) have enough money to buy what your "family" did not.

As its looking now though, by the time you do reach that point in your life, PC gaming will probably be completely extinct, and consoles will be PCs (but just for gaming) - the ps3 already has what 8 processing cores?

I think what they did to the PC gamers was wrong, and the people that keep saying that the console gamers screwed over the PC gamers they really need to shut up. We need to band together people

The 80% of PC gamers that are open to console players without much issue are great and PC gaming is a fine way to play, but when it comes to the elitist 20% that condemn other gamers as inferior... well they obviously have no one better to do with their time.

I don't care about "PC gamers". If they are just ordinary gamers who happen to use a PC, great. If they are elitist snobs who make fun of consoles, whatever, I don't care, because I rarely consider consoles and computers all that different. In essence, an asshole is an asshole, whether or not he plays a PC or console is irrelevant.

As to the PC games, I think the cost factor skews in favor torwards the console. But, the games tend to be evenly distributed. Despite the console's best efforts to take advantage of all game types, it just can't compete with certain types of games, when played on PC.

All in all, while I prefer some game types on computer ( RTS, some RPG) I prefer other games on console ( FPS, some RPG).

I use a console, mostly because of the controller, the fact I can sit on a couch while I play, and the relatively low cost when compared to PC's.

I used to PC game in the days of Diablo II and Starcraft and such, but I've given up on keeping a non-obsolete PC in my posession, so I got a 360, 'cause you'll only need the one...unless it dies, then you need to hate Microsoft.

Aye that is a very good point. Me, I'm a so called "PC Gamer", but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy consoles. I am pissed about the fact that half of the PC games these days are ported versions of console games, or that half of them are console exclusive, but nevertheless, I like both equally depending on the game I'm playing.

I do have to disagree with console FPS's however but that's just me I guess ;)

A workable computer for gaming will run about 4-5 times what an xbox costs, a good one is even more,so it costs slightly more for computer gaming even though the games tend to be a bit cheaper. I personally have an xbox 360, because I don't want to spend more than $300 on my gaming system, and because I don't want to worry about getting a new video card/computer every other year because the games just got more cpu intensive.
So... you spend how much on a 360? Having never bought one, I can only go on the internet. Here's the first one that turns up on my usual shopping site: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-360-Console-Hard-Drive/dp/B001DTD0WM/ref=dp_ob_title_vg

Now, that's £350 for the console. I bought and built my PC, I spent around £600 for it, so far I'm £150 worse off than you. That console has a 60gb hard drive. Being as mine came with a 186gb HD, and I bought a Tera External (931gb of usable space), I'm better off for storing and installing games on my system.

But hey, ignoring the extra space I get, let's pick up on the other "strength" of the 360. The friends system you mentioned. To use that, you get to use Live. To use LIVE, you have to have to pay, meaning an extra £35 per year. I love that about consoles... You buy the console, you buy the game, you pay the phone company for the line, then you get to pay Microsoft an extra 35 quid for the privilage to USE said game on said console on said phoneline.

I take your point about upgrades and not being able to play stuff though, but if you build the PC right in the first place you're safe for 3-5 years before you need to upgrade.
I took the liberty of comparing the prices of the cost for a decent gaming computer versus the cost of buying a console, and added in the games. Here's how it worked out. ( this is done through Best Buy, a fairly popular electronics store.

HP Pavillon Elite-comes with Blue Ray, Wireless, 8Gb storage, 1 Tb memory- 1,129.00
Assasin's Creed 2- 49.99
Total: 1,178.99

Sony Playstation 3- Comes with Blue Ray, Wireless, 120Gb HD- 299.99
Assasin's Creed 2- 59.99
Total: 359.98

Difference: 819.01

You could argue that there are far better prices that could be found for both of these systems, and you would be right. But, Best buy is a standard electronics store, with standard prices, and the average person would no doubt, consider buying their games and systems from that store. So, it seems to be a good choice for a standard comparison.

In order to make a credible claim that Pc's and console's are on even ground, you need to account for the $819.01 difference between the two. While the computer boasts more power, and can be used for doing other things besides gaming, that is not the question. The question is, for gaming, which system is more expensive?

I would play PC games if I could afford a good gaming PC, but I would also play console games along with it.

Same here. Also PC gamers can be incredibly elitists, take the recent debacle on MW2 not having dedicated servers for some reasons because they play on a PC they think they're entitled to that. Well, deal with it, this is what consoles get all the time and we don't *****, pull your head out of your asses and quit being so fucking spoilt.

I would be a PC gamer but for one thing.

I can't get on with the mouse and keyboard.
Most of them are cool but some are not.
Opposite. I'm pathetic with a controller. How are you supposed to move the camera efficiently without a mouse? D:

OT: I only just bought a 360. We'll see how well I adjust, being solely a PC gamer up until now...

Meh, I could care less. The only thing that kills me is the "nose high" snobs.
Yo. Okay, so it's all about persona. According to the media, PC gamers are older and more mature as a whole than Console gamers, even though statistics show the vast majority of gamers is over 18.

Personally, I enjoy games on all consoles, altough The only system I own is my PC. As a whole, PC gamers have pretty much the same attitude as the people here on the escapist. A whole lot of decent people, and a few losers.

PC gaming is more expensive, more complicated, and honestly I hate the mouse and keyboard control scheme. I've been a console gamer my whole life.
More complex is something we actually like. More expensive is true, if you use a computer just for gaming. Though I use my Computer for everything I do, so I consider it a trade-off.

As for controls, I can play games just as easily on consoles. Hell, I've got an xbox 360 controller for my computer. Use it for console games running with an emulator, and platfor games like Prince of Persia.

Perhaps it's not PC gamers that should complain less but console gamers that should complain more and make more demands? The MW2 boycot isn't elitist... it's just bunch of potential customers that tell the producer what they want. PC gamers just have different needs and wants then console gamers.
