Fire rate is for CHILDREN!

Real men use high calibered large guns that take people out in fewer bullets.
YEAH!
People keep lining up to face my M107, and DIE in the process!

Neither. I prefer a combination of muzzle flare and noise. That is to say, dakka. You always need more dakka.

Depends on what I'm shooting.

If I'm shooting lots of enemies then RoF.
If I'm Shooting fewer enemies then damage.

I prefer a high damage rate, so that I take down enemies with the minimum amount of ammo. Plus, with a high damage rate, I mgiht be able to kill enemies with a single, well-placed bullet to the head.

I try to focus on accuracy, so damage is generally more important to me.

Of course, sometimes its fun to spray-and-pray, in which case obviously fire rate is essential.

Also, it's much more satisfying to drop an opponent with a single powerful shot than to spray them with twenty.
Bingo. This is my line of thought too.

It's why I generally prefer using snipers and semi-automatic rifles in games over fully-automatic weapons.

One-two shot kills. I'm a shotgun/semi-auto rifle kind of guy. Or shotguns with slugs. In Bad Company 2 I used to confuse snipers constantly by taking them out half way across the map with SPAS 12.

It really depends on the situation, for a sniper rifle or RPG then i'd rather damage over ROF but for a CQB weapon like a sub-machine gun then rate of fire is better

Any person decent at mathematics will tell you that the perfect balance of both yields the highest dps.

high damage weapons tend to be slow. so if you miss with one, it takes a long time where you can't actually do anything. so i prefer a quick hitting weapon. 1 out of 3 hits > 0 out of 1.
looks like someone hasn't seen the MP40, or the FN FAL

i prefer either a .50 caliber or a .44 caliber round. damage tops rate of fire, only meatheads pick machine guns because of there in ability to aim, sneaky bastards use rifles and camo to survive, an AR is alright and an all round weapon, an SMG is for those speedy bastards on the map and a shotgun just pisses you off around corners. they all have pro's and con's, EG: damage tops RoF in MW2 while RoF tops damage in BlOps.

And off topic but comon treyarch make a map where a sniper is useful, the maps are all set out so theres a maximum of 2 good sniping positions on them, i think the dev team have a grudge against snipers. all of the maps are to clustered and action packed theres no moment of peace and no real free movement choice, no more run and hide in the field somewhere, its just "FOLLOW THE CORRIDORS, NO FREEDOM ON THESE MAPS" thats something they can fix.

And just no claiming hacks anymore guys, 99.99999% of the time its your connection that kills you alright, quit bitching about hackers
Go buy Battlefield BC2 if you want big maps. I prefer it to CoD since Battlefield gives a more realistic feel of war. Also I prefer damage over rate of fire. But I will still go for something that can if needed fire fast for CCQ. But damage is always the winner. I love taking people out in a good snipe, or just killing someone with a nice slug shot hurled out from a Neostead 2000.

Damage. Fire rate easily wastes so much ammo.

Though I do require some minimum of fire rate.

I was almost banned for using the Neostead 2000 like a sniper and shooting chopper pilots out of their seats and being an anti sniper with it xD. Then someone commented on my kill cam and said "nope, just being good with the slugs" :p

If you've ever shot a real weapon you'd know a combination of both is better but if pressed an old bolt action would suit me just fine.
