when it comes to shooters, do you prefer damage over fire rate or fire rate over damage. personally I'm a damage person. now don't get me wrong, fire rate is all good and everything but if you miss and have a high fire rate, you waste a good bit of ammo.

Edit: what I mean was would you rather have a slow ROF and high damage or low damage and high ROF

Depends on the game. A number of the more "realistic" games don't really need a distinction, if the target is hit, the target is dead, regardless.

When a distinction is made, I prefer rate of fire, cause my aiming skills aren't great.

Assuming both achieve the same DPS, damage wins out because it uses less ammunition. Also, it's much more satisfying to drop an opponent with a single powerful shot than to spray them with twenty.

damage. higher damage normal means slower fire rate and that normally leads to less recoil cause your firing less. i prefer high damage assualt rifles so i can use it in close combat but also at longer range with the less recoil

I don't like to say it, but I prefer a Fire rate. Damage is often a gamble if your opponent is the bouncy type. Hit him and he's dead, miss and you're dead.

shouldn't you prefer damage because if your aiming skills aren't good, not only will you waste more ammo but you will have more recoil on your gun.

That is a problem, yes. Again, depends on the shooter if that's an issue.

i prefer either a .50 caliber or a .44 caliber round. damage tops rate of fire, only meatheads pick machine guns because of there in ability to aim, sneaky bastards use rifles and camo to survive, an AR is alright and an all round weapon, an SMG is for those speedy bastards on the map and a shotgun just pisses you off around corners. they all have pro's and con's, EG: damage tops RoF in MW2 while RoF tops damage in BlOps.

And off topic but comon treyarch make a map where a sniper is useful, the maps are all set out so theres a maximum of 2 good sniping positions on them, i think the dev team have a grudge against snipers. all of the maps are to clustered and action packed theres no moment of peace and no real free movement choice, no more run and hide in the field somewhere, its just "FOLLOW THE CORRIDORS, NO FREEDOM ON THESE MAPS" thats something they can fix.

And just no claiming hacks anymore guys, 99.99999% of the time its your connection that kills you alright, quit bitching about hackers

If you miss one shot while having low fire rate and high damage (e.g. while shooting a sniper rifle or rocket launcher), the loss is much bigger than while missing once or twice at high fire rate.
The other thing is, you'll probably miss a lot more often while shooting at high FR.
But firing 5 rockets at once (using a 5-rocket cartridges instead of a bullet) out of a minigun-like weapon would probably have both high damage and fire rate~
