Do people even recall the fiasco that surrounded him even getting elected in the first place? He was quite possibly easily within the top ten of worst US presidents of all time, I was frankly shocked that US citizens re-elected him. And keep in mind, I realize just by the nature of the job of US Commander in Chief it has been a position that is NOT squeaky clean.

No.

/thread

(I'm also amazed has to how he got elected 2 fucking times)
It was rigged.

OT: Short answer: No.

Long answer: No, and I'm not going to rip off that freaking joke because I'm not that much of a hack. Bush was incompetent, he lied to his people, and his policies were crap. There's lots of other bad crap that I forgot, too.

To be fair to George W. Bush, many world leaders have managed to do far worse in 8 years of running a country. I mean, look at Robert Mugabe's performance in Zimbabwe over the same period. But that's about as positive as I'll probably be.
That's a very different political situation. I can assure that if Bush had even tried any of that shit in the US he would have been assassinated / impeached / arrested. Bush bent the rules as much as he could though.

Bush Jr. However was a boon to the military industrial complex Former President Eisenhower warned the American people about. Spending to the military despite the decrease in soldier recruitment skyrocketed allowing new technology with mixed results. Our "future soldier gear" was too bulky and ineffective compared to the conventional warfare equipment. Drone fighters have been good but have sterilized war where even more people can believe war is good without actually understanding the chaos and harm is caused to society and humanity.

And of course to end it all was the recession due to the artificial lifestyle the American public caused by themselves through housing, deregulation and lack of regulation of the markets, and lack of enforcement by the FBI because their focus was now on terrorism instead of growing white-collar crime which has been at an all time high.
Exactly.... collaborate on an attack on American soil to shock the people into believing that they needed to spend more on safety and security. last year they spent $2000 PER PERSON on security, compared to second place China's $65 per person. My question is, do you feel any more safe?

No. Hell no. Wasting all our fucking money on a war that gained us nothing.

And the only reason I didn't vote "He was a terrible mistake" was because Gore would have been even worse (for sure) and Kerry would have probably been worse.

I would say no, but he was far from the worst president in even recent memory.

Overall, no. He did some good things (that I can't remember off the top of my head, but I know happened), but No Child Left Behind was a terrible idea, the gigantic tax breaks were worse-than-useless, and the clusterfuck that was Iraq has apparently turned our justified and necessary efforts in Afghanistan into another clusterfuck.

I don't think he did a good job, but I don't think his time was a complete disaster. The Dems got Obama and a near supermajority in both the House and Senate. Yes, two Republican guvs were elected recently, but the Dems gained two more seats (I'm guessing Rove forgot to mention that in his article in the WSJ). Fox News is being successfully outed for the hack jobs they are. The Repubs are polarizing into fiscal concervatives, and the other fear-based neo-cons (who are losing popularity).

The windfall of Democrat love, has them polarizing into groups like "those who view things heading in the right direction" and "those who will never be happy unless rainbows are served to them on platters of pure self-righteousness". When the prez came to SF and was met with protests, I felt the urge to plow through them all in a Hummer that ran on baby seal tears. It hasn't been a year yet! Give it time! (EDIT: I live in Berkeley, up to my balls in hippies.)

Bush was terrible, but good things are rising from the ashes. Hopefully the thing that dies along the way is fear-mongering from both sides.

Considering you're now caught in two wars, an economic crisis and the average person in America is probably the worst off they've been since the '70s, I'd say he did a pretty bad job for you.
I am Curious as to why you assume I am American from this...
If this is directed at me.
I have to say that he seemed to suit a lot of the american population (Not All!).
But internationally he was, well, we all know about that.

yes simply because there is no "he did alright" option

the man did a good job with homeland security tried to help out africa and did the best he could with a failing economy

in short he was average

and is anyone else sick of people saying he did a shitty job and hardly backing it up or just defaulting back to "he was stupid" i mean hell that exact phrase was what some one said over and over when they said he hated them

And how he got voted in twice.
First of all, he wasn't voted in the first time. He was appointed to the position. That wasn't an election, it was a travesty.

*Ahem*

He won fair and square, by means of the Electoral College. Doing away with that system would be a very bad idea, because politicians would only pay attention to the major population centers, and it would be a terrible blow to the people out in the 'burbs and beyond.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really a fan of W, but he wasn't actually an idiot, he just made himself look pretty stupid in public. Which was quite funny.

Dick Cheney, on the other hand... A chill runs up my spine whenever I see a picture of the man.

No child left behind...such a horrible, horrible system. Sure, it sounds okay on paper, but in execution...god no.
