To be perfectly honest...BioWare is yet to release a game i really do not like. Sure they have their issues, some minor, some bigger, some less r more annoying but this kind of thing is something i am willing to forgive if the overall impression is that good.

Just like with DA2 i could spend hour on pointing ME2 flaws or design ideas i do not fully agree with as a gamer. But both those titles were fully worth the money i spent on them, especially int he age where majority of productions is limited to 6-10 hours of gameplay when you are really pushing it for every single secret/achievement.

40-50+ hours of storyline based gameplay gets a thumbs up from me.

Fantastic game, should've kept some semblance of an inventory system and maybe a few more skills, could just be me picking nits.

Main plot isn't that great compared to the first, felt like it was stalling for time by adding Collectors and Harbinger instead of figuring out ways to stop the Reapers. Still great game, nearly the best of 2010 (outshined by Bayonetta).

Great game, bad RPG, in my opinion.
This. I though it was an awesome shooter with a great story. But it is funny how it pretends to be a RPG.
Yeah, there's absolutely no character building to it, except for the linear upgrade system which is functional, gives me a reason to do side quests at least.

Then again, I'd still rather have it the way it was in ME2, rather than the really clunky inventory and somewhat pointless skill trees in the first game. Wish BioWare fixed those problems, rather than remove them altogether. Seems to be a pattern with them.
Yeah. I understand people who say Mass Effect 2 isn't an RPG. I just don't understand the people who say it isn't an RPG compared to the first game. Just because there are more blocks to fill doesn't make it deeper. The difference from block to block in Mass Effect were just so incremental.

The inventory system was just full of reskins with clear-cut choices of what the better option is (given that two choices are of the same level). The only time where you really had to decide which armor or weapon to use was better (due to advantages/drawbacks of one compared to the other) was whether to wear Colossus Armor (more damage resistance) or Predator L/M/H Armor (more shields and tech/biotic resistance). Mass Effect 2 makes it so that you will want to use different guns in different situations, as each has its own strength and weakness.
I agree. ME, itself, was barely a RPG. Which is why the backlash from ME to ME2 wasn't nearly as severe as the backlash from DA:O to DA2.

easily one of the best games ive ever played. and i love that (imo) they fixed EVERY issue with ME1. everything i didnt like about the first game was either terminated or revamped in the second.

i hope ME3 is even better :D

As I've said before, it was an absolute masterpiece.
Nothing else to say about it really.

I like ME2 better than the first one in almost every way. I'm an old-time RPG player and I don't think it is less of an RPG than the first; it just focuses on other stuff than stats and weapons. You can customize your character with more diverse abilities that really matter. There's none of the horrible inventory system of ME1 where you get to choose between a hundred of very similar assault rifles to find (or buy the spectre issued weapon) the one that is better than all of the others. Combat is better, more tactical and interesting.

ME2 emphasizes choices, story and consequences. Of course, it's still linear and many things will happen the same way, but there are important choices that hopefully will carry over to ME3, and serious consequences to some of the choices, like who lives and who dies.

The story has it weak points but the whole presentation is very engaging and the characterization is superb. Very good writing.

To me it is a well realized RPG, yes different from what we were used in the past but still very good. I guess people expect different things from the label and so didn't think it was an RPG.

The story and characters were great. Very involving. Still felt like it lacked some depth.

I found that the combat was still terribly uninspiring though. The game may have played better as a point and click adventure.
Point and click adventures are extremely boring when it comes to combat.
Mass effect 2 had action, adrenaline, etc. There is no sense of adrenaline in point and click adventures.

ME2 had its problems that I won't list right now, but I enjoyed it

And for the record, DA2 also has its problems that I won't list right now, but I'm enjoying it right now as well.

I loved every minute of it when I 1st played it but after playing DA2 I went back to try and restore my flagging love of Bioware only to have my attention turned to all the blemishes I didnt spot 1st time round.

and I was shocked to realise how shallow the game is, especially the combat- say what you like about DA2 but the way it did the combat was far superior to anything BW have done previously.

I loved it, I spent a couple of hundred hours replaying it over and over.

I plan to go through it again after I complete ME1 and transfer over a character in preparation for ME3.

Though it wasn't without it's bad points such as:

The complete lack of equipment to customise. Fair enough the way it was in ME1 was a lot of crap with the occasional piece of equipment being the same as the one you have but with a higher number, but at least there was choice in it (Do I want damage protection or shields?) and upgrades.

The scanning of planets. Boring and annoying... How come they went from great looking planets in ME1 to recoloured marbles? Then the actual scanning of planets was just "Ehh..." so many planets with such little on...

The Paragon/Renegade chat options. Being forced to go full paragon/renegade to be able to access certain chat options (That you need to get for certain parts otherwise you lose out on a crew member or have one being disloyal) though it was better than in ME1, where you needed to up your Charm/Intimidate skills to access them (Unlocking more points with Paragon/Renegade scores)

The complete and total uselessness of my favorite class (Adept) on any difficulty higher than normal due to the fact that Warp was the only Biotics skill that actually worked on a target that had Shields/Armour/Barrier.

Other than those it was quite a nice game that I enjoyed playing through.

I liked it. I never thought of it as Game of the Year status, but it was pretty good. One of the few Bioware games I didn't play through again.

Absolutely detested it and its damn near ruined the series for me.

Edit: Poll is a bit pointless really. The vast majority are going to say like, even if they preferred the first game and didnt like the changes because ultimately, they DID like the game, even if it wasnt as much as they wanted to.

Should have been more broad in terms of opinions on the game instead of just a black and white like/dislike. OP has an agenda though, so I guess its mission accomplished.
If you want broad opinions, why not just read the thread?

Face facts buddy, despite its flaws, the game is widely considered good.

Loved it. I'd never played an RPG that I enjoyed until ME 1, and ME 2 was even better! I've already pre-ordered the third one.
