The ones who are generally have themselves on the cover.
If they aren't considered "beautiful" then they'll often have something else on the albums cover.

Or, I could be completely wrong. Who knows?

No. Too many musicians today belong in the world of modeling, rather than music. Talent should be the only thing that matters.

One name to prove that you don't have to look good to make good music.

Nope, they just need to play decent music, that's why old bands with 50 year old members can still score with 20-30 year olds. Hell, the music industry probably attracts tons of ugly people who made bands. When you realize the only way to get laid is to become famous/wealthy/show how well you can play an insturment or slip some roofies into someones beer at the bar, you join a band/get daterape drugs.

Don't think so. You sort of need talent too. But a lot of modern 'musicians' seem to have little talent, and only have their appearance to pull them through. Like Kesha. It's not that she can't sing; she doesn't even try to sing. Jesus. How did she become that famous? I wonder.

Anyway, I think it depends on the audience - some bands rely on their fangirls fawning over the lead singer, some bands rely on their fans appreciating their hour long live performances. Just depends.

No, but it certainly attracts fans that might not have been otherwise interested. Likewise, a good voice and talent for music can make an average or generally unattractive person seem much more attractive. The perception of talent and beauty tend to feed each other.

Have you seen some of the most famous artists in history? Mick Jagger isn't really much of a looker but gets more in a year than most people will in their whole lives.

Nowadays? I think it is very important to be attractive like any form of media in order to become popular.

Back in the day it didn't matter, there are tons are creepy, weird looking and just plain ugly singers that are among the most popular and most famous of all time.

I don't think I have to - beautiful, but then again I usually - don't afraid of anything (yes, I know I'm being a grammar Nazi here)

It depends on your image I guess. If the way you look fits with your image and how you want people to view you as then I don't think it matters. I guess what I'm saying is that if you look like the music you make then it's fine. But yeah it's much harder on women, and it all depends is your image is marketable or not.

No, but people still think it is, now this has been mentioned but take Susan Boyle, with a voice like an angel, but since she Is not the perfect sex symbol everyones like "HEY! SHE'S UGLY! But she can sing, let's bring these two points up constantly when we talk about her." So she's essentially the token "ugly" singer.

Now my other point is Janis Joplin, now I am In no way saying she's ugly, but she is not everybody's dream date I would think. But yet she was incredible, amazing In her trade. And It also thinks people who aren't the "epitome of hot" get lopped into the comedy music genre. Great musicians are littered all over the internet, Paul and Storm, Duane and Brando, Jonathan Coulton, ignored by the greater public because they can't get In tight leather jeans or shake that ass on stage. And Ke$ha, a glitter covered doll, and Justin Bieber, a non threatening lanky white boy, gain fame because they have that appeal.

What is your question again?
Do artists and musicians have to be beautiful? No, it doesn't matter. Specially if they are good...
Do performers have to be beautiful? It helps, I guess...

Most mainstream singers are not artists, by the way. Many don't even write the stuff they sing.
