If you percieve the media as glorifying war, then you must be pretty close-minded. A willingness to attack what is traditional is not the same as open-mindedness. Not every soldier is a hero, but anyone who puts on that uniform, who puts their life on hold, who risks death in the belief that they have given themselves up for the community and their country is a hero. I'd like to know how many in the "soldiers are not hero's group" have even remotely gone through the rigors required to become a soldier.
I will admit in a heartbeat that the US has been involved in petty and unjustified wars, that some soldiers have done horrible things during war, and that some soldiers are bad people. However none of those things deny the heroic decision of most soldiers. Without a military we would be an open easy target. Without people willing to kill and die for this country despite the weak leaders we would all suffer anytime anyone else decided to use lethal force against us.

Hero is an honorific that is only used to justify why we are not paying them the money they deserve. They risk their lives on a daily basis so that the rest of us do not have to.

No, it doesn't the uniform doesn't make then a hero. I understand what the group is saying, but they did a terrible job at sending the idea out. Really, this sounds like a bunch of highschool/college kids got together to protest about the actions of the government without regard to the people who get thrown under the bus by everyone. Very few people right now really appreciate the armed services and most don't know anything beyond the scope of Iraq and some of Afghanistan. Not all of these so called recent wars were bad, everyone seems to have forgotten about Somalia and Kosovo where genocide and repression was seen and had to be stopped. We can't be the police of the world, but we also can't stand by and allow countries and regions to tear themselves apart, and the people who have to go into those places should receive recognition for trying to make a small part of the world a safer place. Anyone who thinks that people in the military aren't held responsible needs to sit down and talk with a soldier who's had to fire a weapon at someone else, it isn't easy and often times their own lives are in danger, and it's something that they have to live with for the rest of their lives.

I believe any person who is willing to go out and put his life on the line is certainly very admirable and I would certainly conisider them a hero. I hate to see any kind of war and Im sure most of them dont like it either.
Throw politics and that stuff out the window and just think about war, alot of those guys dont wanna be there, but they are fighting for something and sacrificing much of themselves to do it. This is a pretty rare thing these days... And remember that one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. So yes I do consider them heroes.

Seriously I think everyone has a right to their opinion, but that doesnt mean that they arent incredibly stupid. They are bitting the hand that feeds.
