Sometimes I listen to him, sometimes I don't.

If his description on a game meets my personal standards, I'd usually put it close to my list.

Yup, but mostly because he and I have very similar tastes, with few exceptions (HL2, a 'diamond in a sea of shits'? That's a strange spelling for 'turd', there). But also because since he accentuates the negatives he works well to downplay what most reviewers do, which is to accentuate the positive so as to not anger the game's fans, lest they leave really hurtful comments in their pretty little sites.

Get Yahtzee's review and an average review from a game from most sources, and you'll have a pretty unbiased review.

Of course, you could just watch the Escapist staff's review, which I trust a lot more...

It's pretty easy to separate the comic from the reviewer. I bought Psychonauts based on his opinion, and I certainly didn't regret it.

I find myself noticing faults of games more than I would normally. Call it ignorance or me being weak, but whatever.

No, I see him as a commentator and not a critic. He chooses to (hilariously I might add) focus on the negative aspects of a game and rip those to shreds. To be honest, I never listen to any reviewer who is paid to review games because the amount of games they have to ploay and review makes them not review them as games to have fun and enjoy, but more as an item and if the parts are assembled correctly.

Take this for example, I used to love fried chicken, it was my favorite food and I could eat it anytime. In college I began managing a fried chicken resteraunt, so I was around it 8-12 hrs. a day, six days a week, I couldn't leave the store so my meals consisted of fried chicken and I had it those six days a week sometimes twice a day. Now I can't stand it, I can tell when it's good fried chicken but I won't do more than taste it. That's the way I see reviewers, they know when it's good, but they have been burnt out from having to do it critically for so long they notice every little flaw.

If I want a recommendation, I ask regular people who have played the game for fun and entertainment. That system works best for me. I still read and watch reviews but not for recommendations but for entertainment, especially if it is a scathing review of a horrid game.

Ok I went with "Yes" but it's yes and no for me, because yeah he talks bad about games, but ask my family members and you'll find out from them that I take FOREVER to decide what games to buy before actually buying them (mainly at game stores). I use his reviews because I only like certain games anyway--FF13 is one I would not consider and Yahtzee confirmed that, but with games like Mercenaries 2 I disagree with him because airstrikes are NOT found anywhere next to signs saying "Oh boy I hope nobody steals me." (I'm mainly talking about them sitting on the street not the sign part) The game was too boring, not much of a sandbox as Just Cause 2.

Nope. Yahtzee's reviews are meant to be funny. That, and just because he didn't like the game, doesn't mean I won't.

Not really, but his reviews help a lot when I'm thinking of buying a game and notice that I don't have money for it. I convince myself that it wouldn't be worth it anyway.

Erm.....No....

I love his video's, they're great for a laugh and sure, he makes a valid point every now and then....

But I wouldn't go as far to actually consider it a "review".....not one of any value anyway.

Now reviews rarely actually impact my decision on wether or not to buy a game in any case (wich has left me with a few REALLY poor games but that's beside the point) but Yahtzee's opinion DEFINITLY won't.

Not really and neither does any other reviewer/site. I listen to the word of mouth, and my own gut instinct that's served me well over the years.

... Also he's too man to admit that he can't actually drive, rather than the vehicle section of every game being broken.

Well, yes, very much so. With all the games that I've bought based on his recommendation (Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed II, Fallout 3, Saints Row 2, Bioshock, God of War) and all the games that I've otherwise played that he's reviewed, I've found his observations to be pretty spot-on. If nothing else, I consider him to be the ultimate litmus test to keep me from wasting my extra spending money, which I don't exactly have a lot of, on shitty games.

Also, there is no such thing as an objective or unbiased opinion. All opinions are inherently biased, and I find that I just happen to share a lot of his biases.

Seeing as how I like Halo, no. I consider him to be more of a comedian than anything else, and I must admit, he can be pretty fun, and he does cause some great fanboy reactions. I refer you all to his review of Monster Hunter Tri, and the subsequent EP this week, and just how hilarious it is when people take what he says seriously.

Then again, I like Halo, and I sympathize with JRPG fans. It does suck to have games you love insulted on a weekly basis.

It depends on the Genre.

When it comes to certain games, and genres, it depends on what his disposition on. I wouldnt dismiss some games like SSBB or JRPGs just because there not his type of game.

Yahtzee is most often accurate in his reviews, and brings up fair points (most of the time) for games. YOu just have to decide if what he brings up is a merit, or a demerit.

So, to answer your question, sometimes. He is a more accurate reviewer then GameSpot (now a days). Usually, I read other reviews too, especially ones done on the Escapist

When I want an opinion from a reviewer, I'll watch their vids for a while to see if their opinions mesh with mine. Yahtzee is in the middle of the road. I'll only really pay attention if it's something I want to know about like L4D2, but his opinions are his for a reason. If I really need to see a video here about what I need to do with my disposable income, I go watch MovieBob.

Most of the time I don't watch his reviews until after I've already bought the game. I watch his reviews fro enjoyment and because I like to hear varying opinions on games.
