I buy certain DLC. I don't buy weapon packs or skins or anything of that nature where I know it took a day to make and I'd be interested in it for about 5 minutes. I buy things that add on a new story section or area to explore or continue the story. For example I bought some Fallout 3 DLC since it added new areas. I like broken steel because it added the functionality of continuing the game. I bought some Mass Effect 2 DLC since it continues the stories of the characters and adds a new area. DLC is not a smart purchase, very few DLCs can really boast the kind of bonus hours and enjoyment time necessary to justify the purchase. As a result I try to only buy the best or those I will most enjoy or get the most out of. Its a dumb purchase and I want to minimize my stupidity and regret.

I usually do, yes.

I have all the DLCs for Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Oblivion, Borderlands, Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Dragon Age: Origins, Plants vs Zombies, and probably others that I've forgotten about.

So, uh, yeah. I buy DLCs.

Generally no I dont. For games with a ton of DLC coming for it I will wait the year or more to buy the game with all the DLC ready to be unlocked. Of course I usually end up just borrowing the basic game from friends/family.

The reason why I do this is because generally DLC is just horrible for the price developers/publishers want and because I believe any piece of a game that was worked on during its initial development should be on the game or offered as free DLC. I buy the games for their initial development and not having access to all the content made during that process is a deal breaker for me.

Content made after the initial development Im more forgiving to and will buy if I 1. Think its a fair price for the content and 2. Think it looks like fun and/or looks interesting

Only if it adds something to the game. The only ones I remember buying have been "Operation Achorage" for Fallout 3, which felt like a shitty COD ripoff in the Fallout Universe and "Lair of the Shadow Broker" for ME2, which I really liked.

No, DLCs are rip-offs, most of the time and even when they are good, they are still way too expensive for what they offer.
Btw people buying expensive map packs or a half hour worse of content for exorbitant prices don't help at all and keep this DLC madness running...

Nope. I only have DLC if it's free or included with the game (Bonus packs, GOTY, Complete Editions, etc.)
This, for the same reason I never pre-order the games that look especially good like Skyrim.

Nope. The one time I actually bought DLC was for Dragon Age: Origins, since I wanted to 100% it(never happened before I got sick of the game). Bought two DLC packs for around 6 euros each and I didn't even get 15 minutes worth of gameplay. I felt ripped off big time.
So these days I ignore DLC.
Luckily I got the Ultimate edition of Dragon Age Origins, so I didn't feel ripped off as much as you. But really, they charge $15 on the PlayStation store for the Golem companion. I mean it gives about 30 minutes to 1 hour of game-play for $15. That is not fair pricing.

Back on topic, no I never buy DLC. But if I know a particular game is going to have a lot of it I wait for the GOTY edition to come out. But I never buy DLC by itself.
I got Ultimate Edition just last week! Not to excuse the obsurd $15 price tag, but an hour's worth of game-play is only counting the quest that rewards you with Shale. She levels up and has her own brand of armor/weapons, you know.
On the topic of Shales armor, its not really that much of a change. The only difference between the armor is the color/stats. Even then there is only 4 different colors representing the type of damage. If they made 10+ unique armor sets for Shale that are not just recolors I could agree with you.

I might as well elaborate on my dissatisfaction with the price. It is not that I don't consider the DLC good or worthwhile. But the content/price ratio is horrible. Even compared to a full priced Dragon Age: Origins at $60. The only thing that makes me happy is that the publishers release the complete packages, otherwise I would never get to see the DLC content.

I typically only get DLC when it's on sale or really cheap to begin with.

That was another way of saying rarely, by the way.

I tend to not buy the DLC partly because places like Game and Gamestop only sell PSN credit in ridiculously high amounts at a time (were talking the lowest amount you can buy being £40 worth of credit) being that im currently a student and moneys tight enough as it is i just cant afford to shell out for both the game and then an extra 40 for a few add ons which most of the time are not really all that great.

That being said i do appreciate and thank game companys for giving us the option to download DLC its a great way to beef out games with nifty extras and stuff they just couldn't fit into the game before its release i just think they need to be a bit more reasonable on the pricing sometimes little things like an extra car for burnout shouldn't cost £4.50.

I prefer full on Expansion packs over DLC anyday. It is really bad that game companies think that making 2 maps is $15 worth. I remember the days when a full new campaign for each side, tones of new maps and units was justifiable for a Stratergy game expansion pack while these days, a single unit seems to be enough for you to fork over more money.

Only if it's free or seems very good.

Only ones I bought were the World at War map packs with the good zombie maps

Only if it's something lengthy and for a game I love, ME2's Shadow Broker, RDR's Undead Nightmare, and Fallout 3's Broken Steel just to name a few. A lot of DLC can be cash ins but some of them are really high quality products.

No. If the developers felt that their DLC wasn't important enough to put into the main game, then I don't think it is important enough to pay additional money for.

This mindset is going to kill me if they release an amazing expansion for Skyrim. ¬_¬
Expansion =/= DLC. Expansions are much bigger, generally worth the price, and usually come on a disc.
Bloodmoon... *drools* I wonder if we'll get something like that again.

I try not to buy too many DLCs now but I would, only if they benefit the story of a game not so much the multiplayer (i.e. Closing gaps, lengthing the game, or altering the ending.) Games that I have found to do this are more or less RPG games without a multiplayer setting to them so most are long enough to begin with like Fallout, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Fable.

Depends on the game, if its things like knights of the nine for oblivion or awakening for dragon age origins then yes if it's short and pointless like most of dragon age stuff then no.

*sigh* If only. At least we won't get the Horse Armour DLC for Skyrim.

If the DLC is appealing, and the price is right, then yes, I buy DLC. I mean, it gave me the opportunity for Force-kick Ewoks in TFUII, so why not?

Others, like the mini-campaigns for Bioshock 2, Red Dead Redemption and Borderlands are great value for money, and a non-multiplayer-based extension of the original's gameplay.

There are exceptions. I bought Dead Money, the first DLC for New Vegas, but I think I'll hold out on the others until the inevitable GotY edition comes out. And I never, ever, EVER buy map packs.
