Other: I think they're a fun distraction and add replay value to a game, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to unlock one.

Although I sometimes play a game a bit longer than I would to get an achievement, but only if it's something easy/interesting/silly.

I think they're fairly pointless.

I mean, if you get one, that's fine, but I don't see the value of them other than for bragging rights.

There's an achievement for using the search button...
*Is becoming a search button Nazi*

I like achievements. When you do something really hard or interesting, you can get rewarded for it, and people will know that you've done said thing.

They're fun to get but I don't go out of my way to get the really obnoxious ones or play crappy games because it's an easy 1000 gamer points.

You know the only achievement I'm "seriously" trying to get is the Seriously 2.0 achievement in gears

For the most part, I really like them. There are exceptions though. I absolutely hate any achievements based on multiplayer. And I hate achievements that take a ridiculous amount of skill to earn, like some of the Rock Band and Guitar Hero achievements. Oh, and the Mile High Club achievement in COD4...so...mother-frakkin'...frustrating...

Yes, computer game achievements greatly bolster my self-esteem. I pat myself on the back whenever I get one. They make me feel special and superior to those who don't have them.

Yep i absolutely do. I like that have a decent gamerscore(30k+) but i more like what they do for my games. They tend to add more life to them. Ill go ahead and replay the game on say the hardest difficulty just to get some points. So i like that i get more bang for my buck because of achv.

Isn't that sort of the point of achievements though? What use is an achievement if everybody's achieved it? Left 4 Dead has some extremely easy achievements, to the point that I don't even know why they exist.

They're a much more compelling feature than I would have expected before I bought my 360. It does feel pretty good to hear that "plink" sound while playing and it does add replay value.

I sorta like achievements awarded for finding interesting little secrets and stuff, not for completing ridiculous challenges.

They are a good incentive to get you to do things you would normally not do. Achievements motivated me to start beating games on the hardest setting, which is a joy to accomplish. I am also going back to old games to trying and beat them too. Plus beating an RPG 100% has more meaning. I wron't boost for achievements I can't get or spending too much time trying to get them myself, but overall, they add longevity to a game. I find it a little harder to go back to old games that lack them. They add value to players who care without getting in the way of those who don't. What's not too like?
