I'm above average, but I consider myself pretty average. I know a lot of the seriously intelligent people so when looking at my own intelligence I realize that out of the educated world I'd be lucky to be in the top 40%.

No, I'm not that special.

There are many people here smarter than me let alone the real world.

Yes, for typically I find that I seem to have more common sense then most people. I find that common sense just does not seem that common nowadays...
Pretty much the same.. But that aside, I think I am about average, maybe a little bit more-than average. I'm happy with it.

I don't think so. People around me frequently mention how smart I am, but I feel like a complete fucking idiot. It's really scary having everyone assume you can cram two years worth of learning in three months, and then ace a test regular students have trouble with. I mean, seriously, what kind of sick brain-monkey child is capable of this?

Do you?
Yes I do, based on my personal expierience
Yes I do, based on IQ or simmilar tests
No I do not, I think I am an average person
I think I am less intelligent than the average person

No intro needed
Not one, but two spelling mistakes:

expierience - experience

simmilar - similar

I would recommend you make use of the "Edit" button.

yes, but i also think high intelligence is seriously overrated. i'd rather be less intelligent and more skilled with manual labor.

If I had to call it either way, I'd guess that I am smarter than the average person on the basis of my academic performance . At the same time, I can be on occasion quite slow on the uptake, mentally clumsy and not great at those logic puzzles that are usually meant to judge intelligence. In the end, I'd like to think I try my best to be intelligent.

I study bio-medical science at the university of Leuven (in belgium). It's somewhat like studying medicine to become a doctor but not to diagnose and treat people. You conduct research later.

And I don't find it strange that most people say they are smarter then the average person. Since the average person doesn't spend his time on forums...

I love how more than half considers themselves above average. How the hell does that work?

Most average people I have come across happen to be either ignorant, gullible or utter morons, not too hard to be smarter than that. Oh and I don't see myself as smarter, just wiser (Wise-ass status not counted).

I'm logical, got 1500 on the old SAT, do well on IQ tests, and am in my final few semesters at Georgia Tech studying engineering. HERE, I'm not above average intelligence, but elsewhere I tend to get that impression.

You're making the mistake of assuming the Escapist's population corresponds to the world at large. There's really no reason to think that, it's a small enough grouping with a number of refining factors which eliminate anyone significantly below average. In other words, I would think at least 65% here ARE above average intelligence.

I'm an engineer. I'm surrounded by folks who can't figure out something as simple as "Your files are stored on the server, and your Documents folder acts as a shortcut to that location."

So yes, I'm considerably more intelligent than those around me.

Also, IQ Wank tiem! 160 last time I measured (which, admittedly, was over 5 years ago, towards the end of highschool)

Academic ability =/= intelligence

I think logically, I'm competant, I can solve practical problems easily, and find it easy to grasp complicated concepts.
That is true. When I meet a person I don't care about his IQ or his degrees, I judge people by the overall ability to analyze problems from a logical point of view, or at least how deep they can think, and what interesting conversations I can have with them. I have only a few really close friends, mainly because I don't find people who I can talk to about an interesting subject everyday. Trivial talk bores me, but I try to play along for social reasons.

I'm at a comfortable average level. I don't strive to get better because, quite frankly... I'm lazy. And I've never considered being average as bad, what's wrong with being normal?

i easily am one of the smartest people in my year so logically i am smart however i do so many stupid things i have to question how smart i really am
And the fact that you are the smartest person in your year proves nothing (I am NOT saying that you arn't smart, I just dont have faith in school/collage kids)
they're should be no faith in school kids the only reason i see myself as clever is cos i can tell the teachers answers to questions before they have worked them out

I meet with people who are smarter than me all the time, however those are high-priced lawyers and nuclear engineers, oh and one stock worker, but I'm convinced he is a mutant whose sole power is to be smart, either that or he has basically wasted his intelligence. Those who aren't nuclear engineers or lawyers are typically not as smart as I am, or at least that's as far I can tell.
