Some of my friends call me geek because of my gaming habits, and they're right! Hell, my girlfriend just called me geek like 2 seconds ago and I replied with a large smile!

At my school, people are rarely called geeks, mostly because a few senior chicks have played and liked games like Guitar Hero, Fallout, etc.... mostly bacause their boyfriends like those games lol.

I do get offended by being called a nerd, but I don't show it. I may not wear it proudly, but it isn't something to be ashamed of. What IS shameful is the fact that I don't have a ps3 or 360...

grr this reminds me of a kid who constantly says to me " why do you read so much " or more recently " when are you going to stop reading books anyway? " and I just lose faith in most people of my generation.

And alot of people give me weird looks because I don't talk with other people as much and mostly keep to myself and friends or ocassionally talk to them about something if it's interesting atleast. But I don't talk with them cause their idiots who constantly get bad grades and for some reason on the bus home EVERY FUCKING DAY SING WE WILL ROCK YOU I FUCKING HATE IT THEY COULD ATLEAST SING A DIFFERENT SONG FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!

okay enough with the rant I don't talk to them because their fuckheads who will most likely never ever get anywhere good in life........ and they call me a nerd, geek and dork

I take offense whenever I'm called a nerd/geek/dork for ANY reason. I'm a jock who took up video games after my body quit on me and I couldn't play sports anymore. I still game only when there's no Boston sporting event to watch.

but, people rarely understand that the definition of nerd is being very good at somethings. meaning you can call them "sports nerd" etc.

I don't care for people who do that. They're at a lower level of intelligence and humanity.

I really don't care what anyone calls me. All I know is that I've been a gamer for a very long time and I'm fine with that.

I know that it is meant to be an insult, but it doesnt feel that way to me. I feel like they're trying to apply a stereotype to an un-stereotypical person, and the meshing doesnt work, so the word slides away.

Someone could be calling you a geek and all they're trying to say is "you're spending too much time playing a game, You're weird"

It all comes down to the fact that they dont like whats different, and if they dont like that its their problem, whatever they call me to suit their own insecurity doesnt bother me in the least.

No one has ever called me a nerd/geek/dork for playing games. I don't think anyone at my school has a problem with playing games, I get the nerd title (but only rarely) for other reasons. If I'm ever called a nerd, I really don't care. It's true, and I don't see a problem with it, so why would I?

I get more offended as someone who expects better insults from people
This I agree with. To be honest, I never really get offended by anything people say. If it's a crappy insult, they lose anyway. If it's a good insult, I can appreciate it and laugh, and everyone wins.

I get pissed when people are wrong though, because I'm a nerd.

To me "you are such a nerd" sounds exactly like "I admit that you are smarter than I am."
I agree there. Whenever someone calls me a nerd, I bear it proudly because they're inferring that I'm better than them in the only way that matters.

As for myself, I don't get called a nerd for playing video games at all. I get called a nerd because I have an absurdly good memory when it comes to irrelevant (or seemingly irrelevant) stuff, and I have a tendency to show up the Dux of the year every so often as a result.

It doesn't help that I look like the stereotypical nerd either. Tall, lanky, brown hair...
