The word "nerd" and related words don't carry the same stigma that they used to carry. It used to be an insult, now its like saying that you are a jock, metalhead, preppy person, etc. Also people are beginning to accept that nerds can still be normal people instead of the stereotype of living in their mothers cellar and playing D&D all the time, in costume and in character, with horrible acne. Sure there are some people like that, but thats pretty rare.

Girls seem to say its cute, but dont feel like you can then totally relax about subjects you talk about, you still cant talk about games/nerd stuff with non nerdy people, however "cute" they say it is.

I dont get offended, im the only nerd in my group of friends and constantly getting asked to fix their computers. Fine when I do, they say "Wish I could do this shit, just doesn't interest me" and make me a cup of Tea. They still call me a nerd, but only when im not helping them , as do most people I know but its not offensive, at all.

Most of my friends are goths/metalheads, and while I do love the music, I don't feel the need to dress in black, paint my nails, and get piercings. Because of that they don't consider me a goth, but I've been called a nerd a couple of times. It doesn't bother me.

Its the same with me.

I get called a nerd all the time. I just laugh in ther faces and say better a nerd than a retard.
