Yes actually. I try to be helpful and the good guy in most games, with the exclusion of Fable (Original One) Where I was a Bad Guy One Time for the lols, and Red Dead Redemption which for some reason I want to just kill off entire villages.

Ha! But yeah, even with Oblivion, as fun as it is, the story tends to become somewhat generic for whatever genre an open world game belongs to.

I can never bring myself to play a bad character in games that have an implemented morality system.

I play the good guy, I would generally play and make decisions based on my own moral compass first. On the second playthrough (if im that bothered) I would change things up a bit.

I was ok with it sort of in Kotor, but I can't do it in Mass Effect though for some reason.

I can be normal Shepard..can't be Dick Shepard though.

I move about a bit. I kind of fell into evil in Oblivion for instance. I accidentally killed someone during the main quest and along came the Dark Brotherhood, I didn?t look back really considering the goodies and awesome quests you get from it. Stealing on the other hand wasn?t really my thing in that game since it seemed such a bother considering the trouble you need to go through to sell it.

In Fallout 2 on the other hand I generally play a good character who occasionally partakes in the five finger discount, and by occasionally I mean increasingly often.

I generally play good characters though, just because that is what I tend towards at first and because evil seems not to be worth the trouble a lot of the time.

I love being the most horrible person ever in RDR, pushing old ladys down stairs, shooting random people in the face, etc. But in real life, I can never really be a bad guy, girls always consider me as 'a nice guy' which isnt good if you know where Im coming from :\

I prefer playing the villain whenever possible, but when a game just makes it hard just for the sake of being hard i generally don't bother.

The only games I was never able to be Evil in was the KotOR games.

I still don't know why, I can do it easily otherwise. In Mass Effect it's actually funny.

Not really, you're never technically a bad guy because you aren't committing acts of evil against other living things, rather stimulated people and things.

It depends. For the most part, no. I prefer being evil on my own terms though.

Creatively evil, you mean. I agree, that's indeed more enjoyable.

Fallout 3 has to be the best jerk-simulater I know. There are so many different ways of being a jerk in that game it's unreal.

It depends on the game and how much I care about the other characters...for instance in Fallout I find myself unable to be evil especially as I love some of the other characters and can't kill them

Depends how it's done, I guess. If the 'bad dude' is just an amoral thug (e.g. KotOR), then I find it difficult, largely because it's boring. If the 'bad dude' just has an attitude (e.g. ME2 Renegade) then it's fun, but not really evil.

Now, if there was a game that let you play truly evil dudes PROPERLY (e.g. Emperor Palpatine, scheming in the background, sacrificing millions of lives just for more personal power), then I think it could be fantastic. Unfortunately, I've yet to play that sort of game.

I find that the motivations and means are usually lacking for most 'evil' gameplay, so I don't go there much. Would love to play it though!

This pertains mostly to Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption and game like that, where you can choose to play good or bad.

I don't mean morally (mostly) but physically difficult. Even if I try, I end up just shifting to good. Unless I'm playing the games wrong, for the most part the only ways to be evil is to randomly kill people, and I always try to play the suave and smooth evil doer (I can't think of any examples at the moment, think James Bond's evil twin if there was one)as opposed to the bloody randomly killing kind. And, yes, I blew up Megaton (once).

But especially in Red Dead, even when I went through a random killing faze, most of the story quests give you +Honor anyway, I just find it difficult.

So I'm wondering if anyone else holds this same evil ineptitude?

(For option two I thought about putting babies instead of human liver...but thought that was just a bit too evil)
I always choose what suits me most, now I can be evil by killing random people, sure. But if they've been introduced in the game and therefore actually exist by my standard it comes down to the situation. If the evil action grants me some sort of bonus, or advantage, and whether or not the evil action suits my principles.

I played Mount and Blade Warband, and as pathetic as it might sound, whenever a lord actually showed some respect (which means very little there as their fondness or hate of you is displayed as an integer anyway) I would immediately refain from slaying him.
