Got it. And while I don't enjoy it, I can't lay down and see aspergers syndrome as a half-empty glass. While I have it, I am in a great relationship (no, I'm not single), I have good marks in school, good friends, and am a hard worker. I have been working for years to construct my behaviours around the aspergers' finer traits: memory and rules. So, I have used it to remember a sort of "code of honor" and use the memory to apply myself in school and work and now I have become a stronger person, or at least I believe so.

If you have aspergers, it's not the end of the world. Fight it, and you will win. No battle is impossible!

And as a note, if you suspect anyone of having aspergers, try to understand them and talk to them. Aspergers syndrome affects the more social areas of the human mind and while we can't communicate or feelings and we can sometimes come off as creepy and paranoid, most of us are just lost and afraid of social situations. I know I was. If you know somebody who has it, talk to them, politely, and you might be surprised what you learn. They're tough to crack, but you'll be surprised what you can learn from them.

Just initiate a polite conversation. They won't do it, but they need to know that they are accepted into the school, workplace, w/e. It can really make a less-than-liked person actually pretty cool.

I've known I have Asperger's since I was about 4, but have been pretty much mainstream since the 3rd grade.

The only person I know who has this used it to get extra time to take tests although he didn't need it (he told us) and he used it to get away with selling drugs to students by saying it was "peer pressure" therefore I refuse to say more on the subject

I don't but my parents thought I did and I saw a lot of therapists and was put in the autism program at school, I have severe social anxiety and I apparently display some symptoms like being extremely sensitive about food texture but those are just little things. I don't have it its actually been found that my problems in school (one of the reasons my parents thought I had it) were actually caused by ADD.

I have it and I am female. I was diagnosed through testing, they were testing my son for autism at the same time and found he was on the high functioning part of the spectrum, they believe he has asperger's as well.

When I was younger they didn't have the term aspergers they just called me severe ADHD with depression and OCD tendencies. At one point they wondered if I was bipolar or had a personality disorder until the aspergers diagnosis. I went through the gambit of anti depressants, anti psychotics, mood stabilizers, stimulants, and anti anxiety meds till they found the right mix. (small dose of prozac and vyvanse). I also had counseling, behavior training, as well as reading on my own.

It can be a blessing and a curse. The obsessive focus can be helpful at work. But the lack of social skills can be a major achilles heel. My handwriting is very very poor so I have become close friends with Office. I wear special glasses at work since my eyes are sensitive and super dark sunglasses when I am outside. I try to keep my break and lunch schedule at work the same so not the push my boiling points since there has been so much change at work. I can be extremely rigid and stubborn in my way of thinking. I prefer to work on my on and be alone rather than with people. I had to be trained to look people in the face when I talked to them or they are talking to me. I will take some things as literal instead of assuming.

Research is showing asperger's is found in up to 1 in 250 children

I have Aspergers....
as well as ADD, ADHD and OCD...
Mind you I don't feel like it effects me that much, ADD seems to kick in very rarely and OCD only seems to effect me when it comes to work. Example: If I get shown how to do something a certain way, I tend to be a bit obsessive about doing it that way and only that way.

I did take Ritalin as a kid, and let me tell it it worked. Anyone who says it does not needs to do research on it. I don't take it anymore as its not needed but it was very much needed when I was younger.

Do not have it.
I doubt many people will.
The DSM-IV info used to be on wikipedia, causing half of the internet to self-diagnose with Asperger's, in order to just have an excuse for their faults.

I meet the so-called "requirements", but that only just proves how bad the modern DSM indici are. I'm also bipolar according to it. (I don't consider myself having that either)

Shouldn't that be autism?

I don't think I have it, though it would explain an awful lot about the workings of my mind, by which I mean that I fit a number of the characteristics. However, I hate going to the doctor regarding anything psychological, and suspect that chances are, I'm just a little bit strange, which I accepted a long time ago.

Yeah, its a form of High-functioning autism. I sent the OP a pm asking about that, since that part confused me.

Considering I had to Google the term, I figured I didn't have it.

And I don't.

I was diagnosed with it and I've had years of treatment, so it's no longer debilitating. I hate people who claim to have undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome to excuse their own social ineptitude.

actually yes. was diagnosed by manny a psychologist when I was little, It kind of sucks. talking on forms like this is as close as I can get to having social interactions without having panic attacks. I never look people in the eyes because I just cant, I suck at most subjects in school except for art because I can just sit down and concentrate on a drawing for hours at a time.
I'm the same when it comes to social interactions, but I suck at art because they didn't let me draw what I wanted. Only artistic classes I took were piano.

i have aspergers syndrome and it just occured to me to wonder what kind of ratio it is between those that are affected and those that aren't, at the same time i figured id guage the M/F ratio sinse i know its more common in guys

for those of you who voted Sorry What? aspergers syndrome is a form of dyslexia that is passed on from the father upon birth, it affects general social skills aswell as a number of other mental attributes such as memory capabilities and general cleverness (positively and negatively) the symptoms vary between each person. if im mistaken with any of that or if anyone has anything to add please do so
I have Asberger's Syndrome, diagnosed back in middle school. I was diagnosed professionally after they got fed up with giving me the alphabet. I say the alphabet, because I was also diagnosed with ADD,ADHD,OCD,ODD and just about everything else. I'm 21 now, still no driver's license, never been on a date. Also, it's a high-functioning form of Autism, not Dyslexia.

You are incredibly wrong. Please go find an actual description of it. And fix your spelling and grammar, you're making the rest of the aspergians look bad.
