Shouldn't that be autism?

I don't think I have it, though it would explain an awful lot about the workings of my mind, by which I mean that I fit a number of the characteristics. However, I hate going to the doctor regarding anything psychological, and suspect that chances are, I'm just a little bit strange, which I accepted a long time ago.
aspergers is kinda autism light
Aspergers syndrome is an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Get your facts in order, people!

for those of you who voted Sorry What? aspergers syndrome is a form of dyslexia that is passed on from the father upon birth, it affects general social skills aswell as a number of other mental attributes such as memory capabilities and general cleverness (positively and negatively) the symptoms vary between each person. if im mistaken with any of that or if anyone has anything to add please do so
You are incredibly wrong. Please go find an actual description of it. And fix your spelling and grammar, you're making the rest of the aspergians look bad.
Yeah, for we all look down up ye "normies" and know our time shall come! Sorry, I couldn't resist!

My mom thinks I do, and a lot of my teachers thought I was autistic. I've never went to a doctor about it, and I really dislike being around people, so I might. I probably don't though. I can talk with people fine, and though I never talk to people outside of school, I'm not really antisocial when I'm forced around people.

So no, no I'm not. Also, I'm pretty sure Aspergers is a light form of autism and not dyslexia.

I was diagnosed with it and I've had years of treatment, so it's no longer debilitating. I hate people who claim to have undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome to excuse their own social ineptitude.
That is a good point, a doctor diagnosed me when I was younger, as well as doing treatments to help me with it.

I tend to not immediately believe people who say they have it. It tends to be self diagnosed a lot to get sympathy, as being smart and acting socially awkward are common things that are also symptoms of Aspergers.

I've been diagnosed with it, but I call bullshit. The entire thing is just a limitation, a very easy limit to take advantage of.

I don't, but my sister does and she has it bad. Though she seems normal at first glance, she's pretty much unable to take care of herself because her inability to grasp what is socially acceptable has landed her in jail several times. Growing up with her was also awful because she didn't understand how much her excessively taunting me and swearing me out hurt me. Her and my dad did not get along for the same reason and I grew up in a house filled with lots of fighting. Her acting out and inability to control herself at all also drove my mom into a clinical depression. The only reason she's this bad is because they didn't know about Autism and Asperger's Syndrome when she first started showing signs and she wasn't able to get help for it until she was much older.

Keeping in mind, ever since high IQ was included as part of the symptoms, anyone who has no friends or otherwise trouble fitting in decides they have it. I supposedly do, I got diagnosed when I was... shit, 8? 6? I don't recall.

I meet the "requirments' or alternatively I could be an anti-social shut-in with very few interests.

I've been told I've got it and the main thing I have to keep in mind when I talk about it is it's a syndrome, not a traditional disability, so people are pretty "meh" about it.

It seems like if you're not missing a leg or obviously impaired, people think you've just been labelled for something minor, for convenience.

By the way, fun thing, the person who diagnosed me with said syndrome said she thinks everyone is on the Autistic Spectrum, it's just "normal people" are pretty much almost not on it at all, they're only just there, but then, you get the anti-social and the obsessives...

Yeah, it made a lot of sense.

Not all people are granted insight, unfortunately.
And the socially obsessed seem quite bothered by the people who just want to be left alone, which can be an issue all of it's own.

It sounds like another elitist club judging by some of the comments in here.

Did you know just because a doctor diagnoses you with something it doesn't necessarily mean you have it.

Now I'm not going to say it isn't a legitimate condition but not 100% of the statistics are correct.

Psychologists aren't Gods nor are they mind readers they identify behaviour or lack of and slap on a badge.

It's just another religion at the end of the day but one for the 'educated'.

i believe there are likely a lot of people that are diagnosed with ADD that should actually be diagnosed with Aspergers, to the uneducated (medically) elementary school teacher it can present quite similar in some cases.

my nephew has Aspergers (they tried to label him as ADD)

Ow, my brain. If you're going to be that wrong about it, at least just link to the Wikipedia article or something.

Looking at the internet more than reading novels/books can make you a bit dyslexic for a time. I suppose that's not what you're referring too, though.

Mind if I give you and everyone else who voted "Have it" a huggle?
