Not usually, no. Doesn't mean I like the avatar (looking at you, Halo Elites!) but I never really judge.
OI!!

You dare mock the mighty of the Sangheili puny human? Well try and guess how long you have to live when I decide to finally unleash the battle cruisers and wipe up the filthy stain on evolution that is the human species!!

*ahem*
I kid, really.

As for me, I think you can often tell a person's tastes or even personality according to what they choose as their face to be online but it shouldn't be the grounding of one's complete understanding of said person. I try to get to know people a little before I make any kind of judgements.

Yes usually.

It tells a lot about the person most of the time.

Just look at mine.
Exactly! And I accept you for the cute, maid dressed, wide-eyed, half cat that you are.

I try not to, but since I use MY avatar to show a little of MY personality (dark person who can't stop joking) I often assume that other people do the same. But never assume (it makes an ass out of u and me...).

I may cast a small judgment based on the content of their avatar. Like, if someone had an adorable pic of an anime girl, that had a line that read "now accepting tentacles," I may judge a little. The poster at some point thought, "this is a good idea!" So there's a little bit of the posters mind in there.

And those damn Kirby-people pics. I just do not like. :) No dig at the users... just not a fan of Kirby people.

Well my avatar is just a picture of me... behind an awesome mask..

So judge away.

And i think i do.
Thats why i don't like it when people change avatars that often.

I try not to judge people on avatars, although as we've said it is difficult. I like the way the internet allows us to judge people on what they say rather than how they look, and as someone who has been judged all too often on how they look, I prefer my avatar to have nothing to do with who I actually am.

Unless I'm actually KANE! *gasp*

Nope, I don't do that. Avatars are my main way of recognising people though. I get really confused when someone changes their avatar and that's why I'll stick to mine until the end of time!

Of course. It factors in my impression of the person. Even if I get the impression that the avatar isn't indicative of the person behind it, that also tells me about the individual. However, it is only a part of it. Mostly it serves as a first impression-type thing.

Hmm it's rather peculiar this, it's how I recognize users by, it's rather subconscious. Though after I while, as long as posts are interesting I tend to remember them regardless of Avatar.

Hmmm... I would only judge people by their avatars if they were extreme.
So no, normally I do not. It is just another face.
I judge by actions and words, not avatars.
Unless the avatar is extreme and coincides with the actions/words. But by then, you'd already know.

Is that...the monopoly guy? Or the Penguin? I can't tell.
Its actually Dr. Pepper. Hahah

It takes a while to get out of this. I instantly didn't like Pimpeteer2 because of his avatar, and instantly thought Souplex was fucking awesome. I try not to do this because both things are toxic to the environment here.
those two are both cool in my book.
Thats kinda funky to know. Not that I'm holding it against you, its just an odd tid bit to know. What about it though, too much of a smug, fat cat kinda thing?
c'mon I got better!

and yeah that's probably it.

Not at all.
As is the case for most of my judgments online, I base my opinion of someone off of what they have to say. If someone has an avatar I really like, yet expresses themselves in a completely douche-filled manner, then they are just as annoying as a like-mannered poster with a horrible avatar.
For a post count as massive as yours and an avatar as memorable, how come I dont recall seeing you on these forums at all?

No, I don't judge people on their avatar at best it tells you that they like something (or don't) but no one is just their avatar, iyswim.
Mine is my baby just because I like looking at him, it doesn't matter what other people make of that, it merely defines one part of who I am, in this case 'a mum'! I may change it to a game pic I like, or something else, but it can only ever be one thing about me.
