I can proudly say yes to that , as well as in both official languages. It's really a nice little song so there's no reason not to learn it. I think it sounds better in french though. Been trying to learn "The Maple Leaf Forever" (our unofficial national anthem til O Canada was written) but it's taken a bit longer since no one really sings it that often anymore.

Of course I do. I take part in patriotism and I love America, but I always distinguish what I love because there are so many idiots who think that the president at the time represents what America truly is. I feel like our country has been founded on some supreme ideals and I love it for that, but a lot of Americans nowadays are dumb as fuck and the presidential election is just a popularity contest. It's frustrating that our people don't pay attention to what's going on in their own country.

tl;dr: I love America, but fuck Americans.

I know the Canadian and American national anthems, since I've lived in both countries. Canada I remember since I'm Canadian and it wouldn't be right if i couldn't, and the American just kind of stuck after hearing it so much.

I know the first two verses of God Save the Queen but that's it.

There's fucking loads though! No-one ever sings the full anthem all the way through so it's pointless knowing more than the first verse really.

I don't know all the words, even though in school we stand up every day and the anthem is played.
During that time, I don't pay attention to the anthem. I just think about what I'm going to be doing later that day.

God save our gratious Queen
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.

O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all.

Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen.
There are definitely more versus than that, including one about crushing the Scottish, but I'm pretty sure that's all that'll ever be used at a formal occasion.

Pretty much every American knows the words to the common verse of "The Star Spangled Banner", but I doubt many people can sing the other two verses without looking them up.

Oh God yes, Canadians know it. We've had it drilled in our heads since the very first day of school. We sing it up to eighth grade, in both English and French, and then in high school you just stand up and listen to it every day (in Ontario, at least).

... so yeah, I know it.

well since in elementary school and secondary school they did not just play it in the morning just for shits and giggles.

so of course i know it. In English and Francais.
for two years the first class of the day was French so we would sing it in English and then French to appease the crotchety, ***** overlord who needed to make everyone more French they they wanted to.

Apparently not. Last weekend, I got to see the anthem subtitled, and I was shocked to see the last line was not "for the land of the free..." but "o'er the land of the free..."

See, I thought it was talking about the flag waving and standing for America and its values, but it's just sitting there waving I guess.

Here in America the Star Spangled Banner is thing we learned before we left elementary/primary school. Counting sporting events, school, parades, holidays, etc. I sing it maybe once every two weeks. Besides the Pledge of Alligance it's probably the most recited speech.

Do I love my country? No, in fact when I have to the pledge (usually five times a week, but since school's been out never) I always say what I call "The soon-to-be pledge":

I pledge allegiance,
to the flag,
of the United States of America,
and to the republic
for which it stands,
one nation
under God,
indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

I pledge alligance,
to a flag,
of the United Socialist States of America
and to a communist republic,
for which it stands,
one nation
under Obama,
indivisible,
with liberty and justice for none.

So it's something Glenn Beck probably will/has dream up. Meh.

And the best part is no one really cares I do it, and have never gotten in trouble.

I know mine, actually it's pretty poetic. (USA)

I also know Canada's, and I love the instrumentals for GB
When you say the instruments for Great Britain's national anthem I think you're thinking of "rule brittannia"[footnote]apologies for spelling[/footnote]

OT: Yes. I also know the second verse which is largely unknown. I'm Australian and our anthem is Advance Australia Fair. Pretty rocking tune IMO.

Yes, because I was misguided into thinking that I had to know it to officially become a Canadian citizen. They didn't really check, so I probably shouldn't have bothered.

And they play it in the school every morning anyways, hard not to learn the words.

Although I'm very much against anthems and patriotism, especially to the current government (or most governments currently on the planet, for that matter). It doesn't help that our Canadian anthem is filled with some "God" crap every few lines.

Fuck it.

I was wondering who knew the words to theirs. Yesterday, at a gig some guys behind me started singing ours before the band came on, they got the whole crowd singing. I only knew the "God save our gracious queen" so I just mumbled the rest.
Looking at it though, it's not exactly a hard song to remember.

God save our gracious Queen!
Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen.

To add more discussion, so I don't just get yes or no answers, do you partake in patriotism? Hand on heart, tears down the cheek when your flag goes up?
Do you feel strong emotions when you sing it?

[sub]
Do I sound like a therapist with the barrage of questions? [/sub]
Huh I thought there was more to it. Although to be fair I probably wouldn't be able to sing it without the tune.

I definitely don't know all the words to the Yugoslavian/Serbian anthem though so I put some...
