Read it, loved it. Got "Necronomicon" the collected works of Lovecraft sitting on my desk.

Favorite stories are The Terrible Old Man, A Shadow Over Innsmouth and Nyarlathotep.

Well people not into nerd culture (or just sci-fi, horror, fantasy) probably won't have heard of him. I've only read the Dunwich Horror, and it was brilliant, but I've not yet read any others.

To be honest I would never have even heard of him if no one had told me what a couple of Metallica songs were about.

EDIT: I'm well aware the all-important "heard but not read" option is missing, this is a strange problem to be sure

I am the fortunate owner of a H.P. Lovecraft anthology, and judging by the bookmark, I've read every short story published between 1916 and 1927.
My favorite so far is "The Music of Eric Zann". I wouldn't recommend reading that one late at night...

To be fair, although he had several mythological 'cycles' and called upon work by other writers in his inner circle, not to mention his works when he was trying to imitate Lord Dunsany, it's pretty common and completely acceptable to refer to most of his creations under the umbrella term of the 'Cthulhu Mythos'. Calling people retarded for having a different opinion? That's just low, not to mention arrogant.
I'm not referring to anyone specifically, but people will claim to know the full body of Lovecraft's writing just because they've heard "Cthulhu" tossed around a few times online. That's retarded.

I have never read a Lovecraft novel but I have seen a couple of adaptations of his works. Namely Die, Monster, Die! [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059465/] and Dreams in the Witch-House [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0643104/]. I also must see Re-Animator [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089885/] one day.

I've heard of, never read. Though it's on my to-read list.

I'm the only person I know that's actually heard of Cthulu or HP Lovecraft.

Love every bit of his work.

Never read any of his work? Here's a place on the web where you can read it all for FREE: http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/
I might actually make use of this link, thanks!

I devoured his work in a month. I especially loved The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath. It was pretty epic.

Hes pretty good. A couple of his stories i remember being a tad dry.

My favorite story is the one about the rats in the walls.

I think my favorite thing about him is the fact witches and the flat earth society cites him as evidence that what they believe is true. Despite the fact he cursed all of those people on his death bed for constantly asking if it was true when he constantly said they were just bloody stories.

The great Old Ones rise. Cthulhu the being that came before will wake from his sunken city of R'lyeh and claim the earth as his own. Know him, love him, worship him. Big fan of the Lovecraft mythos. His stories are very evocative and have chilled my bones and changed the way I look at supernatural horror in literature. Lovecraft's influences, inspirations and colleagues of the time are also very interesting. Look him up, he is worth the time.
