I like it, well some of it. This question is like asking, "do you like movies" or "do you like music". There are bits that you like and bits you don't like. I recomend everybody to try anime at least, espesialy studio chibli movies.
It's nothing like "movies" or "music". That is a seriously flawed analogy.

A more apt analogy would be "sci-fi movies" or "rap music".

In example, with rap music, there are different songs with different messages, some is well done, other parts of it suck, good lyrics, bad lyrics, but at the end of the day, it's still just rap music, a specific type of music.

If you don't like rap music, then odds are, you won't like the best of it, or the worst of it.

This applies to anime.

Personally, I'd rather wash my eyes out with bleach than watch an anime. This is why I mention your flawed analogy. See, I've been told to watch "good" anime, like Ghost in the Shell, or whatever the hell it was called. And I did watch it, and while it wasn't the seizure-inducing screen-vomit that most anime is, it was still anime . I wasn't impressed.

Some people like it, others don't, it's not generalizing a style, it's simply not liking that particular style .
but it goes way broader than that doesnt it, if you dont like movies or music, you wont like the best or worst of that either would you.

personally i like story, don't care how it is drawn or written, but some people think that stories with people with bigger eyeballs are better ... ok for them i guess
Movies and music are mediums of entertainment, anime is a style of entertainment. It's not a broad medium, it a specific style, sure it can be varied, but it's all done in the same style.

It's like saying that someone who doesn't like paintings wouldn't like Van Gogh. While that's true, most people like at least some paintings, and if the person in question does like Van Gogh, but dislikes cubism, then it's not really fair to say they don't like paintings in general, based on the idea that because they don't like a certain style, they must not like the whole medium. It's a flawed analogy, and it doesn't work.

Yes, I much prefer anime over 'normal' series.
Looking at your description of the anime you watched, you should probably watch better series before hating all anime.
agreed.

I used to hate it but my friend got me into it by showing me GANTz (which is a very bloody and overly-sexual series) and afterword I watched Hellsing and Death note and am about to start on trigun and soul-eater. strangely when I went to an anime convention one of the speakers said, "It's impossible to get someone into anime just by showing them a violent series and trying to blow their mind" I was trying to hold back laughter at that statement.

To this day I haven't seen anythng I'm interested in.

I'm not interested in stupid violence, teen angst, retarded sexualisation or disjointed plots.

Oh, I also HATE anything to do with the japanese.

I'm not pro or con with anime. I'll watch it if I hear good things. I loved Hellsing and I'm enjoying my way through Cowboy Bebop at the moment, want to check out Full Metal Alchemist and Neon Genesis Evangelion sometime soon too.

I'm a lover of quality above anything else.

in general they wouldnt like the medium and most people would atleast like 1 anime movie/series, possibly more than paintings even. and you are starting to cross into some kind of weird grey area (hah grey, like the avatar), where you say the van gogh -> cubism thing yet also said the opposite about rap music

but really, this is so totally beside the point now and i now hate anime cause i can't box it properly, there ! :D

No, I hate it. Too childish and cartoony, with a handful of cliched characters repeated ad nauseam.

Only a select few. Bleach, Naruto (Shippuuden), One Piece, Fairy Tail... That's pretty much it. I did like Death Note while it was still running though, same goes for Shaman King. Also i can't stand watching dubbed versions, only japanese with subtitles or else it's crap.

If your gonna check out full metal Alchemist, make sure its brotherhood. The entier series isn't out yet but my god its better then the normal version.

I like it, watched Gyver, New dominan Tank police, TTGL (who hasn't :p), Goast in the shell first movie, Full metal alchemist (and movie, but it was crap), Full metal Alchemist brother hood.

This makes me want to go watch the last episode of TTGL, u no, the one where they are fighting ON galaxys.

Little warning on the latter, if you decide to watch it, the style of humor is pitch black, no cream or sugar, and all the characters are horribly messed up, but it's a pretty damn good show (the dub is better)
NHK is so incredibly *dark* - I was reading the manga and I had to stop cause it was just so.. freaky.

Really depends on the Anime for me. I'm fine with something like Fullmetal Alchemist, but throw in a "Slice-of-Life" Anime and I'm ready to pack my bags.

I don't really like it, but then again, I don't despise it. It does get a bit annoying when I'm hanging out with friends and that's all they ever want to watch (It's rare), or someone decides that it's the ultimate form of art and fuck everyone who doesn't watch/like it. (There's no talking to these people. Damn shame)

Several of my friends absolutely love it. I personally cannot stand it. The wacky hairstyles, the giant swords, the men that look like women, the way people suddenly get giant heads when they yell at people...
If that's your problem, I suggest you watch some more serious anime, like Black Lagoon, Hellsing, Elfen Lied, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. They have a total lack of swords, dork-hair and inflatable heads.
