On the whole, yes.

I particularly like November Rain by Guns n Roses, mainly because it feels as if there is a narrative of sorts with some variation and not just 3 minutes repeated over, whilst still being good music.

Although as a detractor, R Kelly's Trapped in the Closet, there is, at last count, about 20 chapters, all at least few minutes long which makes the entire song about 40 minutes. And he's releasing about 15 more chapters soon. Suffice to say its not really number 1 material.

Also, As a side note, talking to my History teacher, he thought the Bohemian Rhapsody was a stupidly long song at 6 minutes

Yes, but only when I don't actively listen to them. "Stairway to Heaven" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" are great background songs as well as great songs to listen to.
The only long song I don't really like is "Underture."

Great. Now I have to listen to In da Gaddah da Vida again. It's great, but damn, it's long.

Its complicated.
Some styles of music work best at 10 minutes+, others can work with a 50 second song.
Techno or any other music of that style (house, etc.) NEEDS to be long.
Punk songs, I'm thinking Bad Religion here but any punk, sucks if it passes the 4 minute point.
Metal or instrumental music can go either way, depending on the mood/idea being conveyed.
Although, I really can't stand things like Pink Floyd or other art rock that seems to just be elongating a song that could have been good had it been shorter.
So I'll say that Indie and Art Rock should stick to 5 minute limits.
Actually Floyd in their progressive era only has about 5 songs that go over the 10 minute mark. the vast majority of their songs hover in the 5-8 minute range. I can't attest to their prior work as I am not a fan of anything before Dark Side.

Just because a song is long doesn't mean that the instrumental sections aren't vital to the overall experience. For example I am listening to Gettysburg 1863 (awesome song although broken into 3 parts clocks in at 30 minutes. The song itself is about the battle. The intro to the song is the Star Spangled Banner. Is it necessary to have it? not really, but not having it ruins the atmosphere showing a unified nation and realizing that the nation was divided at this time as the gunfire breaks up the song. without it it would still be good and it probably could just start with gunfire, but the addition of this part adds an element of story that wouldn't be there otherwise.

On the opposite end of the spectrum there is Roads to Moscow by Al Stewart. A mostly acoustic song dealing with a russian soldier in the fight against the invading nazis. Without the breaks in instrumental sections, it would totally shatter the atmosphere presented in the song and the desperation that the soldier feels as the country is getting overrun. Could either of these songs be presented in a 5 minute format? sure they could, but they would lose almost all of the power they have in presenting the story

That being said, there is definitely crap that shouldn't be over 5 minutes, but only truly talented artists will make those songs work

If they're good songs, then hell yes, I like 'em. I don't know too many long songs myself, but there are a couple I've heard that I liked. Dragonforce songs for example.

I like long songs most of the time, but sometimes I am restless and just need quick and catchy songs.

An hour long, and consists of only two awesome songs.

I can only tolerate so much, these guys cap it in all honesty.I can listen to longs songs if they have a concept or story to them.

Example :
It's edited.The actual song is 11 minutes.

Almost all Tool songs are over 5 minutes long.
And I like Tool.
Therefore I like songs that are over 5 minutes long.

Sometimes. I liked Civil War by Guns and Roses for a while, then I got bored of it and the rain in the background always freaked me out because, where I live, it's always overcast and I start worrying.

It's dependent on the song, really.

I'd have to say yes when songs such as Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Iron Maiden), or Soldiers of the Wasteland (Dragonforce) come to mind. Even Shine on you Crazy Diamond done by Floyd gets me into it.

But agreed, if its a snore fest I won't even give it the time of day.

Not really. They've gotta be pretty damn good to be over 4,5 min. And house music... I fucking hate that shit. It's freaking annoying.
