I can enjoy them. The best "long song"?

Pink Floyd's Echoes. 24~ minutes of, no, just look it up. Words don't do it justice.

Depends on the artist and the song. If it stay interesting, I don't mind it. I just don't want to hear the same thing over and over.

Coheed and Cambria has a song called "The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut". It changes every time they play it live. You never know what you're getting with that song. The first few minutes are the same, but when they start trading solos, it can get pretty intense. I'd link the youtube video(all 3 parts), but lets be honest, no one would watch it.

I have 6 versions in iTunes, with these lengths:

7:40 (Album version)
8:50 (Acoustic)
15:57 (Live)
12:25 (Live)
6:42 (Acoustic)
18:29 (Live)

I also played a 45 minute acoustic version with a friend last week. It was amazing.

I like 3-4 minute songs. I like to hear something and then hear something else. If a band or artist can make a really interesting 6-10 minute song then that's cool, but generally I just get tired of listening to that one thing.

I like long songs, yes. The majority of Mastodon's songs are long. For example, Pendulous Skin, which I believe to be their longest. It's just over 20 minutes long, and something absurd like 18 of those minutes are complete silence. Though all long songs really appeal to me.

I like Green Day's version of long songs: 4-6 short songs tailored together to be 8-9 minutes long. Keeps it varied, keeps it fun to listen to.

Stairway to Heaven and Free Bird are pretty badass too, I should note.

If the song doesn't make me wonder when it will end, then I deem it a good song. Thinking about it, when listening to long songs, I rarely check to see when it will end.

Lets see... I got nearly 100 songs over 10 minutes. Some of them probably don't count though as they are 5 minutes of song with a massive silence somewhere in them.

2 longest are Pulses by Steve Reich (56 minutes) and Uncle Meat Film Exerpt pt 1 by Frank Zappa (37 minutes). The longest one not padded out by long instrumental sections is Only Skin by Jonna Newsom (16 mins).

The quality varies immensely between them. A Long Day by Polyphonic Spree (36 minutes) is by far the worst thing in my collection; over half an hour of solo keyboard, but without anything interesting going on. Moby Dick (live) by Led Zeppelin has a 15 minute drum solo in it, which although is good drumming, is very difficult to swallow. Visiting Friends by Animal Collective is essentially 1 chord and some distorted voices played for 12 mintues.

On the other hand, Sister Ray by the Velvet Underground (17 mins), Voodoo Chile by Jimmy Handrix (15 mins), some Joanna Newsom songs, most of the songs off CAN's Tago Mago, Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven album and Miles Davis' Bitches Brew are awesome in their own ways.

Shortest thing I got which I feels qualifies as a song (rather than just an interlude) is the 23 second long "Her Majesty" by the Beates.

I think its impossible to judge music on any one attribute, especially something like song length. It depends on whether it is appropriate for the song and how they fill it. In other words, I think its a bit more complicated than "do you like long songs". I like good songs, some of which are very long, some of which are very short.

Try listening to Dopesmoker by Sleep. It's an album that's all one song, and it's an hour long.
I raise you Fantômas [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del%C3%ACrium_C%C3%B2rdia], that album is one track and 74 minutes long!

OT: Yes, I do love me some long songs, if they're done right. Tool, Opeth, Gojira and lately Machine Head all do fantastic Long songs that push the 9/10 minute mark.
For Opeth, 7 minutes would be very short.

I guess it depends on what "long" means. To people in my english class, anything 4 minutes or more was a long song. About half my music is over 4 minutes. I even have a bunch of 10 minutes that are awesome (and then there is Crimson by Edge of Sanity, 40 minutes). What annoys me is when they make songs that have a ton of nothing at the end. 7 minute songs with 3 minutes of silence at the end pisses me off.

Heh, it beats my other example, Boris's Absolutego, by a total of 36 seconds.
Also, Mike patton has done a lot of voice work for Valve, with the infected for left 4 dead and the angry sphere in portal. He was also the the titular Darkness in that game.
/Nerd cred.

Not usually but there are exceptions
I'm a massive fan of punk and so I'm not a fan of intro tracks, instrumental tracks or, usually, realling long songs. I like a song to make an impact, get straight to the point, create a stir in the listeners emotions and then move on to the next

But my exceptions are anything by Bruce Springsteen. I love that man and all of his music. Also classic rock/metal bands like Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones

Usually I do get bored with long songs. I feel like the impact/message is gone if it's drawn out, but that's because I always like songs to have a message, a reason for you to be listening and something the artist wants it's listeners to walk away having learned

I like good long songs, and there are a lot of those. But there are also a lot of bad long songs, songs that try to stretch maybe 3 minutes of substance into 7 or 10 minutes. Those are the ones that I have a problem with.

It can be essential. For example, Mogwai Fear Satan.
