I hope you realize that the "Oblivion" method of leveling was around since at least Morrowind.

Anyway,I preffer leveling up in the Elder Scrolls manner. It makes actual sense.

Happy cause when I voted the vote's were 50/50 :D. Anyway, moving on from being a ******, definitely prefer the Fallout levelling system. Oblivion was odd as it seemed to level the enemies with you which kinda meant there was no challenge from the beginning as only a few enemies were above your character's level. Whereas in Fallout you wouldn't encounter enemies like Super Mutants until a bit later on in the game when you had levelled up your character a bit.

I enjoy the Oblivion system of leveling the character, but the enemy scaling needs to go... or at least be optional.

I have to go with the "Oblivion" style. Though the first time I can remember encountering that style was in the original form of Star Wars Galaxies. I enjoyed it then, and I enjoy it now.

Well the Oblivion leveling screen confused the hell outta me when I first saw it and I still have no clue what I'm putting points into whereas the Fallout leveling style was more simple and easy to understand and thus easier for me to use.

At least in fallout I know when I'm going to be sneakier rather than more proficient in survival whereas in Oblivion I always seem to be amazing at gathering herbs during the middle of battle.

From t he two, I prefer Oblivion's style. But I prefer Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines's leveling a lot more. In VtM:B you can only get experience when you finish missions. That means no experience gained from killing everyone in the room, for walking 200 meters, etc. I prefer a lot more Vampire's.

Oblivion had perks
You were given benefits on specific level of a skill
Those ARE perks.
But still morrowind did it best.
Leveling up had little to no impact and the skills made sense whereas in oblivion you could complete the game with a level 2 character

It's blasphemy to say that Oblivions level scaling were any good, it took away much of the RPG feel of the game when you could do anything at level 1, I prefer to actually being rewarded for doing sidequests etc when I play a RPG to be later able to own goblins and rats etc.
This. Although I never gave F3 much of a chance, ANYTHING is better than Oblivion's system. It was extremely restrictive to gameplay (You ahve to play to level-up correctly instead of playing the game to play the game) and loot and enemies that are purely leveled completely ruin the thrill of leveling up in the first place. It doesn't help that the combat was a chore.

Oblivion's level system became easily exploitable once you figured out how it works. Fallout's is much better IMO.
added: although improving skills through actual use is a good way to go

I like the Elder Scrolls system, however I also like the way you get to enhance specific aspects of your character with the perk system...so hopefully Skyrim will feature a blend of the two.

Personally much prefer the Fallout 3/New Vegas system. Oblivion's style meant that I spent a great deal of time jumping and casting heal spells so I'd level up, it just means forcing yourself to perform actions you may not nessasseraly use that skill for.

Plus I love Perks and Traits. They just add a little bit of flavor to a character. If they added something simular into the next elder scrolls I might actually maybe even think about playing another Tolkien rip off.

Either system is fine although with oblivion I had to build a workout schedule to level properly (and they don't warn you early on how critical that is). Fallout was more fun tbh, and I love the Perk system, it gave you special abilities without compromising difficulty (new vegas seems the best one so far - I'm sure someone will fight me here but really, the deathclaws lived up their name and I always felt challenged).

fallout all the way. Plus if oblivion is the base line for the elder scroll series, lvling in that game grants NO APPRECIABLE DIFFERENCE >.< everything else lvls up the same with you. you never feel like you're getting stronger. (at least i didn't)

Fallout, well the perks makes the enemies die faster the higher your lvl is. So Fallout is my choice.
