I say whatever the drink is I want. If I want a Mountain Dew, I ask to get a Mountain Dew. If I want a root beer, I ask to get a root beer.
But if I don't know the name I ask to get a soda.
And I'm from the East, not Northeast, just east.

I just call it by name, but if I want to use a general term I call it soft drink. I'm from Australia.

Doesn't "coke" refer to just one particular kind of drink? But then again it doesn't surprise me that it's the South making that sort of generalization.

And here in the civilized part of the country (New York) it is called soda.

I say all three, depending on where I am at the time. Lived in Canada, USA, Ireland and England, and they all have different names that all seem normal to me.

I use "pop" for the general term because I'm from Pittsburgh(Google Earth it >_o), but I call specific soft drinks by name.

In fairness i call it what its called. If its coke i call it "coke", Fanta is "fanta" and so forth.
This, although I usually just just call it Dr.Pepper.

I call it pop unless i am drinking something other than Diet Pepsi. Then I call it by its name, but it is rare that I drink something other than Diet Pepsi.

I'm from Michigan

I call it soda, and I get confused when others call it all "coke" and for some reason, "pop" grates on my aural nerves a wee bit. Nothing is worse than "sodie-pop" though. ~twitch~ I'm from South-Central Illinois, USA. (Illen-noy! That blasted "S" is silent, people! D:<)

I'm from Britain and I say "cola", but I usually just use the specific name of the drink.

I know I saw a map of all US counties and the term most commonly used in those areas once. I'll see if I can find it...

Edit: Here it is: http://tastyresearch.files.wordpress.com/2006/10/popvssodamap.png

I'm from New Jersey and call them, as a whole, soda, although i think i'd just as soon say 'soft drink'.
