I'm confused, there are people who refer to all types of "pop" in general as "coke" ?

Odd...

And yes, Pop for me. (Southern Ontario)

In fairness i call it what its called. If its coke i call it "coke", Fanta is "fanta" and so forth.
Same. Also true for most people I know.

Australia
The Aussies tell it like it is. Agreed.

The only universal terms allowed here is "Beer" or "BBQ".
Actualy, I am going to amend my answer. In general when refering to carbonated beverages it is called 'Soft Drink'.

Australia.

Same here. And it bugs me when people call one drink a different name just because it looks/tastes the same. Calling one of those off-brand lemon-lime drinks Mountain Dew really gets under my skin.

I'm in Seattle Washington, so the NorthWest, and I'm 15 and I and everyone I know say soda. Pop is an uncommon and very slightly used term here. Coke is used when referring to Coca-Cola though.

it's pop here in minnesota, people that say "soda" get ridden out on a rail, and no one bothers to mess with the people that say "coke" (there either southern or druggies)

I can vote other by saying we call it "Fris" over here. The problem with calling cola "coke" here is that itll be easily mistaken for cocaine.

I say soft drinks if I am speaking of them generally and use the specific name when talking about a specific drink(big surprise there...)

If it's Fanta, I say "Fanta". Coke, Coke; Irn-Bru, Irn-Bru; Zingo, Zingo. Fairly simple.

As a generic term, I tend to use "soft drink" in the UK and "läsk" in Sweden. "Coke" is only if it's actually Coke, and "cola" only if it's a cola or cola-flavoured drink.

I call all drinks like that coke. From Scotland by the way.
Really? In glasgow, if we don;t know the brand, we call them fizzy drinks, unless you know it's lemonade or irn bru o whatever, then you call it that.

Soda FTW!! I'm originaly from the southeast (North Carolina), but I currently live in Iowa, where everybody says Pop. I just think pop sounds really juvenile.

In former Yugoslav countries Coca-Cola is called Coca-Cola or Cola for short, other similar drinks are called by their respective names. There is no "coke" or "pop" and "soda" is very rarely used. General term for any flavored non-alcoholic beverage is "sok".
