I may have done it once or twice, but I usually get the game either at midnight, play it until 3, and go to sleep then go to school, or get the game after school.

Yes I have and feel no guilt about it. Why? Because companies have no loyalty to their workers, so I see no reason why I should have loyalty for them.

I haven't done it myself. I haven't really found a game that peaked my interest enough to make me want to do that. If such a game does come about, I might, depending on how I feel about my job. The last job I have I probably would skip since I didn't like it much.

I'm not a selfish dick who'd rather make someone else cover my work just so Ican play a goddamn video game. Considering the average person works about 40 hours a week...that's no that much time out of the approx 168 hours in an entire week. And then there is the weekend, two entire days with no work.

I guess it depends on what's more important to you. Playing a video game the day it comes out (Or whenever you get it), or your job.
I don't think it's selfish if you ask off months ahead, so that it's not a surprise. And not everyone works a 5 day work week. Like I said in an earlier post, I have a friend who's a mechanic and he works 6 days a week for 10-12 hr. Luckily, where I worked we were like family so you could almost always find someone who would cover for you. Mostly because we didn't have many hours so if you could get someones shift you would take it lol.

No, if I can wait months or even years for a game to come out, I can wait a few extra hours to come home from work.

I'm hourly and my days off change each week, so when a game that I am interested in is coming out I simply request my days off accordingly.

Frankly having vacation days listed in the same way is a tad silly as those are days you can take off for any reason. That should at least be represented in the poll.
While there are exceptions to this, a vast majority of American workers don't get "vacation days"

If you asked for a vacation in damn near any place of work, you'd be looking for a job come Monday. So it's considered common practice to take a sick day or two when you need to have a long weekend for whatever reason.

He he, no. I consider myself a passionate gamer, but I have never done it, nor do I think that I will ever do it.

I've never had a desire to. There has never been a game, and I doubt there ever will be one, that makes me want to skip work or class to play it. I do know that a lot of people who skipped when Skyrim and Portal 2 came out, but I've never been like that.

Besides, when it comes to work, I want to get as much money as I can, and work as much as possible, so I can afford more games. And there's never really been an issue since I can just play after I finish work or class. So, I've never seen the need.

It irritates me more than anything. I think it's childish really.

Normally, if I was going to get a game on the launch date, I just reserve and wait to get it after work. I can play all night and since I'm an early riser, I can get up for work the next day.

I took a few vacation days after Fallout 3 came out. However, I still had a week of paid vacation that I had to take, and nothing planned later in the year. That's one of the nice things about working a corporate job, I get four weeks of vacation, and as long as the slots aren't taken by other people I can take a day off without any questions. Usually I won't, but I was really looking forward to Fallout 3, nothing big was going on at work, and I felt like taking three days off so I got a five day weekend.

Nope.
I don't think you should call in sick because of something like that.
Taking of of your vacation days would be OK but not calling in sick.
But never done neither.

People in my college used to automatically assume a new game had come out whenever I didn't show up for the day: "How come Yakob's not here today?" "I don't know but it probably has something to do with DOW2 just being released."

I took out two vacation days when Skyrim came out. It went really well. I had time to get up early and go down to the ol' game-store just when they opened, so I didn't have to stand in line.
I will probably do it again when Borderlands 2 comes out.

I'm not the kind of guy who would pull a sickie though, only vacation days that have been earned.

I have done this. I will take an annual leave day or use my flexi time (time built up working overtime, as i dont get paid for overtime). I currently have about 30 hours in flexi built up and about 6 weeks of annual leave (I get 4 weeks per year but can never take them all :( so i have nice little buffer built up). I have taken a sick day here and there to play a game, as i rarely take sick days by the fact i have some 400 hours of sick leave built up (about 54 days).

So i am getting Mass Effect 3 first thing Thursday morning. Then going to be playing all Thursday night and Friday..

Did a similar with KotOR, KotOR 2, ME 2, Fallout 2 & Tactics, Vampire the Masquerade, etc..

Some games just cant wait.. : )

Really? That's stupid.
In England I'm certain every job has a certain amount of paid days holiday you take every year.
