No, since if I did I wouldn't have enough money for the next game I want. I always need more hours, I don't even take sick days when I'm sick.

Frankly having vacation days listed in the same way is a tad silly as those are days you can take off for any reason. That should at least be represented in the poll.
While there are exceptions to this, a vast majority of American workers don't get "vacation days"

If you asked for a vacation in damn near any place of work, you'd be looking for a job come Monday. So it's considered common practice to take a sick day or two when you need to have a long weekend for whatever reason.
Really? That's stupid.
In England I'm certain every job has a certain amount of paid days holiday you take every year.
Most jobs get paid holiday, but I know some subcontracted drivers for the company I work for only get unpaid leave. Depends on who you work for.
I'm english too btw.

what jobs are you referring to? unless it's some super critical job, i have yet to talk to anyone who didn't get at least a week's paid time off, and even then if you didn't want to work you could just request to not be scheduled for such and such day.
I'm assuming you're talking about people with a full time job tho? A lot of my friends (and myself included) are going to college so we work part time jobs. I'm not sure if it's different in Europe but I've never worked a part time job where I got paid vacation lol. But that's why at my old job we could take off vacation days or personal days when we wanted as long as it wasn't frequent or on a big movie release weekend (unless it was a death in family or flu).

You bet I do, and I'll do it again when I get my hands on Mass Effect 3. I've got so much sick leave accumulated at work they'd probably welcome it.

ah well you are referring to the movie theater, which is a scheduled job, which is what i was referring to in my second part, and tons of my friends work at the theater and they do have some vacation hours built up (we are all in college, so same scenario.)

i've had plenty of part time jobs that had vacation time stuff, it just was nowhere near as much as if you were "full time", which even then that's a relative term to your job i think.
i have no idea how it is in europe either though? so...yeah?

I've done that a few times but since I'm in my senior year of high school it isn't that bad. However I usually just stay up really late and play any games I'm really enjoying or just got. Now that I think about it though I haven't gotten a new game since Christmas... I need something new to play haha.

only time I've ever taken a sick day outside actually being sick is when I've had a woman in my bed and I was supposed to work early, but we were having a bit too much "fun", and even then only on a few occasions, usually the fun happens before the sleep but I've been woken up in suprising and pleasant ways before, so yeah it happens... I just generally don't have women over the night before I got a morning shift... But no, I'm professional enough not to call in sick over games, I can always just play the hell outa said game on my weekend.

Oh, I wish...

I have to take a standardized test on the day Mass Effect 3 comes out. I'm distraught.

I've been tempted to book off for releases before, but I felt bad at the thought. I hate being off, sick or otherwise, so never used to ask for the time off. Luckily, working in a video game store had its advantages: releases are well-known and my deputy manager was nice enough to give me both the day after Portal 2 launch and the day after Skyrim launch off. The only time I deliberately booked off was Fifa '09 launch, because when you're in a town full of chavs, football game releases are painful. Myself and my deputy at the time took the weekend off (and she rota'd it so I knew it was approved) and I had a lovely relaxing weekend away from the scum of the town.

I wish I loved games that much.

Rarely do I ever even get excited enough for a game anymore than I'm even just dying to play it on launch, though.

Much less would I want to do something that could ruin my ability to afford video games.

Edit: Mass Effect? Yeck, no. I'm a jRPG person.:p

The game I anticipated most this year was Skyward Sword. And I waited 3 days to play it due to needing to do other things.

I take days off, but I work hourly with no paid vacation so if I don't go to work, I don't get paid.

It's worth it two or three times a year, though. I did it for Dark Souls and I'm doing it for ME3 this week.

No, I've never done it. Though, if memory serves, there's only been 3 games that have come out in the last 8 years (since I left school and started work) that genuinely excited me so much that I HAD to obtain them day 1, which was also a work day; San Andreas, GTA4 and Skyrim. All 3 were purchased early in the morning before work and I played them once I got home, though my time on SA was cut short due to a sudden case of appendicitis.

In general I don't skive ever, except for last year when I took a week off to go to Download. That's literally the only time I've done it though.

EDIT; Actually MGS4 was also a big release for me, but I can't really remember that one now. Probably just did the same as I did for the others though.

Nope. I just buy it and play all weekend. If it comes out during the week then I buy it Friday. I got stuff to do during the week.

Well, even though I don't get vacation days where I work, I still wouldn't take a day off for a game. Work hard when work calls, play time comes later, even though I'd be thinking about said game all day...

I took the day off of school with my friend when Battlefield 3 came out. We also waited in line for 7 hours and i pre-ordered the limited edition.

After playing every BF game since 1942 I may be something of a fanboy.

I quit my job in high school when GTA 3 came out on PS2. lol

Since starting a real career I have to play it smarter. I have to schedule a day off, and it's usually on release weekend, not on the day it comes out.
