I'll watch his reviews and note his critques, but also keep in mind that what he's saying is his own opinion, not mine. He has bashed some games I liked, like Halo Wars, or Ghostbusters, for example. Your own opinion on a game is what you should consider, not Yahtzees or any other reviewers opinion.

His reviews are meant to make me laugh, and so they are comedic, not truthful. Yahtzee exaggerates a lot for effect, and throws in a bunch of jokes. His reviews aren't entirely facetious though, there are some truths in what Yahtzee gripes about.

It's a mix for me. I'll take them as what they are, comedic. But subconciously I'll judge a game based on some of his 'nitpicks'. xD
Seconded, I couldn't help play a game like Mass Effect and not feel his nitpick soaking through, but I do generally watch them for the lolz...

Sort of yes, and sort of no. He's able to point out glaring flaws in any game, but he also has incredibly high standards.

These standards ARE nessicary, mind you, and they help us appriciate what is TRULY good in the games we play. Heck, hearing his oppinion on Halo made me re-think my own.

I've had people come up to me and tell me how 'Halo's story is amazing!', and immidiately think, "Are you nuts?"

Halo, in my oppinion, is a fun game nonetheless. The weapons are balanced and fun to use, the asthetic choices appeal to the eye and are decidedly non-brown, and its a great game to socialize with. (Seriously, I made some of my best friends over games of Halo 2 at my local church.)

Getting back to Yhatzee....if I listened to his reviews as to wiether or not I buy a game, I'd...never buy any games. Heck, I have my fair share of games that I loved, that the 'world' didn't. Rayman 3....Final Fantasy XIII.....you get the idea.

Basically, one should use reviews as a guideline, but not a final verdict. If YOU'RE having fun with a game, then it shouldn't matter what other people think. Thats your personal decision.

As for Yhatzee, he's an intelligent man, who knows what he's talking about, but at the same time, he's a cynic.
Exactly.
Also, complaining cynically about flaws goes better with comedy.

I watch his stuff for his incredibly exaggerated analogies. Aside from the funny stuff he comes up with, he's just another reviewer, only with slightly more more of a longer stick up his royal ass.

Yes, I find when he reviews a game i have played, even if it is my fav (mass effect 2), I find myself saying "that's true" or "oh yeah i forgot about that"

Much like all of the reviewers on this site, he should be taken with a grain of salt. He is an entertainer nothing more or less. He finds things that are bad because it is easy to make fun of shit that does not work that it is to make fun of the good.

Similar advice I give to everyone: find out what genres you like, and read a good selection of critics until you find one that generally agrees with you. If he like a game, you are more than likely going to as well.

Does not always work, but so what?

Why would you do that? Yahtzee is a comedian, not a reviewer.
Hey now, that's not fair either. Calling Yahtzee a comedian actually implies he's funny.

OT: He's a total failure as a "reviewer", and a moderate failure as a "comedian". To this day it baffles me that The Escapist keeps him around.

Although his critism is a bit heavy he speaks the truth when talking about the games and makes valid arguments for why their should not be any excuses

To a certain level.

I get the humor, and know where it means the game is trash, and where it's just poking out small imperfections.

Yes, I do take his reviews seriously. Games that I have played that he has reviewed, I find him to be correct. I don't think there is one game that he has reviewed and been wrong about (in my opinion).

I take them with a jar full of salt, he's a critic and an entertainer so he'll often take small petty details and make a big thing of it, he is however someone I feel I can take as a counter-balance to all the 'THIS GAME IS PERFECT BUY IT NOW!' reviews out there for any given game.
For instance his review on The Witcher 2 was a bit ridiculous yet I find that the bare bones of his argument were mostly true, the game is very complex and some of the menus do feel fairly pointless.

I take them seriously simply because if you pull the comedy from them he's still the only "Critic" who accually critisizes a game, and berates it for having flaws.

They're funny, but he also makes good points, so I'm gonna go with yes.

Him having as task pretty much to attack only the negative points.. who is there to expect a balanced review. No ONE reviewer should be the final voice.. read many reviews, watch gameplay, play the demo.. there are many games that are to be fair nothing worth more then a 6 out of 10 that for some is just fine.

There is often truth in his criticisms so yes.

Usually the people who don't take him seriously are just butthurt little fanboys I find.
This, only I'd have phrased it a shade more politely, but that's just me.

He's a reviewer. It's his job. He'd have washed out a long time ago if he was just using it as a medium to crack jokes. Yeah, he makes his reviews funny, but you have to remember that despite the fact he'll take the piss out of any game he reviews, you can usually tell whether he thinks it's alright or not.

No. I enjoy the vids for the humor, but I rarely agree with his views on what gaming is and should be.

I look at an escapist review for the positive aspects, and Yatzee's review for negative. Throw in a metacritc gander here and there, stir, shake, and serve on my credit card.
