It's really fascinating that since America was founded, someone's always been saying, "Oh geez, our country is going down the crapper, we're screwed in 20 more years," and yet, here we still are. Take a look at some of our policies from the 'better' years of the U.S.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedition_Act_of_1918
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_American_internment
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overseas_expansion_of_the_United_States

Wow, our country was SO much better back then!
I personally don't ever say it is going down the crapper because I know how bad it was at time in the past. The McCarthy/Hoover era was pretty damn bad. But shit like Guantanamo Bay, spying on/wiretapping Americans with out warrants, arresting Americans with out warrants, not allowing Americans to see their fucking lawyer when they get arrested, all that shit is UNACCEPTABLE. That is only the beginning of the list of of all the offenses perpetrated by the current government in America.

Yes, I fully untrust my government. They keep cutting in the payments to the schools, so most of them look like sh!t. And they would rather redecorate their city hall than renovate different public buildings.

EDIT: Holy fuck, 6x ninja'd.

Don't really see how I can trust someone who can lie into the face of people who actually care with a smile.

I'm 15, and I hate them already.
But then I think about it, and I realise there's not really anywhere else better.

I don't trust my government, both as a matter of principle and for more practical reasons. My universities' library destroys it's records, so that it will never have to turn them over to the Department of Homeland Security. The current administration has no respect for citizenship or individual liberties. States' Rights died years ago. Politics is a dirty game played by dirty people, with notable exceptions. I wouldn't want those people to sell me a used car, much less run my country.

The American founding fathers (as we call them) didn't want you to trust your government. That would be dangerous in the extreme. Rather, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. If you want a free Republic, you have to fight for it everyday.

I love how most comedians would be able to run the country better than the current president.

I trust my current government yes. If Obama wins, I'll be scared out of my mind, and won't trust it as far as i could throw it.

Because he's going to ruin this country with his socialist policies, he wants to implement gun control and take away our second ammendment right. He wants to institute government learning seminars or some stupid shit that'll brainwash this country. He is being supported by the leaders of our enemies, and he is an indecisive man...I can't trust that he would do anything good for this country at all.

Or you should lay off the liberal media. The man's an enigma, he won't be honest about who he is or what his connections with people are. And you wanna know what, I watch CNN, so no, I don't need to lay off the fox, I actually hate a man because of who he is and what he stands for, even when its portrayed with an insane liberal slant. So why don't you do some research on Obama rather than tell me I'm crazy when I have done more than just jumped on a bandwagon

A simple "no" will suffice; it's assumed you can express the adamancy of your disdain in a comment, if you want.

Like you just did. Worked out pretty well, didn't it?

Apololgies for pointing out the obvious, but sometimes peopled don't see the purple elephant in the corner of the room; I like to think they try not to notice.

so you understand that gun control does not = taking away all guns? and the fact that if his "socialist policies" fail that it can all be changed back. gun control is not the same as taking away citizens rights to have guns retard, and the socialist policies will probably fix this shithole of an economic system, then once it is on proper track things can be put back to normal? I mean wake up idiot. people like you that label communism and socialism as evil need to learn something, they aren't evil, in fact they are simply economical systems, communism doesn't mean you can no longer vote. I wouldn't condone communism anyway because it doesn't quite work. and there is nothing wrong with socializing the medical sector, in fact it will probably raise the average standard of living, instead of letting insurance corporations get rich off of sick people and deny medical treatment for the curable but poor
fanboy and 54r93 wake the fuck up get some coffee and understand that the 21st century is going to be different. old systems don't quite work and they need to be modified, and this won't take away your "freedom".

Uh, I did do some research on Obama. Turns out he's a secret muslim terrorist who wants to brainwash america, ruin it with socialist policies, and then take your guns away...

...and I'm all for that.

There are for and against arguments for everything. I can't really decide on what I personally think, as it shifts depending on the state of the country. For the sake of pete, here they are.

I don't understand why many people have so much anger towards their goverment. Running a country in this day and ages takes more skill and careful global-poltical negotiation-skill then people realise. It could be worse, we could live under actual corrupt leaders (like Mugabe) and the way we are governed today is a result of evolving culture. So yes we should trust them, partly because they have earned it and partly because we have no choice.

And now for the second part.

Democracy is old. Very old. Our sociaties in the western world, where knowlege is everything and our personal freedoms belong to the state, can no longer fuction under democracy. Our leaders recognise this and are now milking this for all its worth. We should not trust them as far as we could throw them as they most certainly do not trust us.
