Sorry if this is double post. My first one didn't appear.

Its sort of illegal to not wear one where I am. You'll get a nasty fine and a whole lot of other things too. Besides, why not wear one?

Outside of the US there is no legal requirement for car companies to protect unseatbelted passengers.

Its a very simple way of cleaning the gene pool - if your dumb enough not to wear it your going to die in a crash, improving the intelligence of the species a little.

I have been in a crash, the whole seat broke off and I flew into the window so I don't think it matters if you wear one, but I still do.

Only times I ever don't are when it's a very short journey and there's something preventing me, e.g. I'm holding something in the boot or the belt is stuck. Once or twice I've been in between people in a way which meant it was unlikely I'd be harmed too, but again, rather short, safe-ish journeys. I've been in a looot of minor accidents and general knocks which would have broken several parts of my face or worse if it weren't for that little locking mechanism. The occasional choking or whiplash I might get, or the 2 seconds-tops action every time, is a very minor set-back compared to reconstructive surgery/death.

I wear it all the time and I wont ever think of not wearing it after what happened to a friend of mine.

He was driving down the thin country roads in rural Wisconsin when some jackass went over the center line, and hit him head on. My friend was ok but he was wearing the other guys brains, they actually use pictures of that crash in drivers ed.

Although the other week I got a lift from my friend and I was stuck in the middle back seat, with no seatbelt...

I wear it just because of the cops. If they weren't everywhere I'd just say screw it and not wear it.
Whee! Windshield!

As a P-Plate driver, I can't afford to get caught without it. Besides, I've seen what happens when you don't wear one. My mother decided it would be fun to take me with her to work before I got my P-Plates... O_O

She's a nurse... It was not a good day.

I got used to putting it on as soon as I get in the car. It's a habit anymore, not that there is any reason to stop.

In Georgia they can fine the shit out of you for not buckling up, it's not worth the risk even driving down the street.

There is an advert making the rounds in the UK, which shows the dangers of wearing a seatbelt. If you hit something, your body stops, but your internal organs keep moving forward, and slam into your ribcage (or whatever). If you don't wear a seatbelt, you have more time to slow down before your body actually stops, so the UKs "wear a seatbelt" campaign has made me think twice about putting one on.
But if you don't put one on, what do you think will stop you? Maybe you won't stop immediatly but you still have much of the same momentum. And if you don't wear it, nothing prevents you from tumbling around inside the car or prevents you going head first out through the windscreen.

The best way to survive is to accelerate slowly which is why there are crumble zones on cars. However, for them to help, you need to be held in place. Otherwise the energy the zones absorb won't help you the slightest. Sure, you may break your legs and arms because they also absorb some of the energy but that's better than flying around in the car or out of the vehicles, possibly breaking your neck and whatnot.

EDIT: My spellings sucks right now... I should go to bed but I just have to watch Denmark beat the UK in Women's Curling!

I occasionally let it slip when I'm a passenger while driving with someone I completely trust. If I'm driving or a passenger in a friend's car then I'll always wear one.
DEVILS ADVOCATE TIME!!!!

But a crash might not be your friends fault, no matter how much you trust him it dosant stop say another car pulling out at a dumb time and him hitting the side.

No matter how much you trust him a crash might not be his fault, but it might still haopen

Yup, my parents were adamant about me doing so. Also, in my car, not wearing a seatbelt will piss it off causing it to chime at me repeatedly until I do so.
