Well I like immersion more so I'd rather play a dude. But if it's a game like Tomb Raider then I don't mind.

I don't mind either way. In RPGs, It usually depends on whether the character I've created looks like an interesting character or not, be they male or female.

In Mass Effect, for example, female Shepard just seems far more intriguing. Male Shepard just felt too generic, whereas the female Shep seemed slightly out of place and more disadvantaged, which made her a fantastic character to play as.

Also, she had a great butt.

in all honesty, no, it does not bother me. in FPS games, where you don't see yourself anyways, i don't even care about character gender, but in games where you do see yourself, i take a female because i am a t-girl. not only that, but i'm a (slightly) bisexual t-girl with a prefference for other women. so yeah, i'm a girl who has to roleplay a guy in real life because of her body, so i think it's fair to want to play as a girl every chance i get.

Not really, however I remeber being terrified of people discovering that I sometimes used Zero Suit Samus in Super Smash Bros, I found her to be a really good character to use in boss battles yet not so good in actual fights. However I remeber as soon as anybody walked in and jump up from the couch and shut the Wii off. So to answer your question no, however sometimes it embarasses me I also never purposly pick girls in other games.

It depends. In Uncharted 2, I'll play as a character depending on how well they fit in with the scenery: If it's a guy or a girl, I don't really care. I do play as Lilith in Borderlands, though, mainly because I think her "action skill" is the most useful.

Only in MMOs. If it's a regular game that has a female main character, I'm all for it.

I don't particularly care about the gender of my character, but I still usually end up playing male characters (I'm a female myself) - because I want to play as a character that at least looks like it could kick some ass, and I can't really see wispy lingerie models doing that (I mean, would it really hurt to make the female characters better built for combat, and less built for modelling? It bothers me. A lot.)

I generally prefer to play as a female character. Gaming treats men and women differently in regards to characterisation and abilities. While the generic Space Marine, heavy armour and weaponry archetype (something I find boring) is considered not simply an acceptable characterisation for male characters, but in fact a AAA title quality characterisation, developers are forced to develop female characters in new and more interesting ways. And, while I don't say no to having an attractive female avatar, it certainly is not a deciding factor in why I like playing female characters.

It doesn't help that all the Male models In games like WOW are ugly as fuck. So yer, I play female most of the time tbh.
i agree with these guys on this point...

the first quote i have practically explains everything but MMO's, then the second guy shares my views on MMO's. I play Aion and if anyone has looked at an avatar for a guy in aion; the standard (cause the character creation is just mind numming insane) looks like a big fat moron.

basically; i dont mind playing a female character (and the view is nice :p)

I usually play male characters if I have a choice. That said, I am particularly fond of the Tomb Raider series and Heavenly Sword *raises flame shield*, so it doesn't bother me.

I love playing as the ladies. In Mass Effect, would you rather stare at a man in a skin-tight space suit or a woman in a skin-tight space suit? In Fable 2, I played as both, but when I played as a female I actually CARED about all the appearence changes. And in bunches of other games I can't think of at the moment.

But in Fallout 3, I played as a male. I wanted to feel like a badass man in the horrible wasteland. The clothes weren't designed to look good on a female, and the third person camera sucked.

I'm a male and I prefer to play as females since they tend to be more interesting characters and somewhat more likeable than a generic male character who plague games today

I am a female and in RPGs I rather play as one. For character driven games where you can't make yourself I rather play as a male. Female main characters are almost always just slutty acting, gross looking, or both.

I'd rather play as a girl than a guy. I don't care if this means something Freudian, it's still true and I don't mind saying it. Plus I do a lot better in 1-on-1 fighters as girls because I'm better with fast characters than powerful ones.
