Does not matter, though I will generally play through as male characters more than female if I have a choice.

Funny how many people say that in games such as Mass Effect they don't play a female character because it gets too awkward or something when she is supposed to be you.

I tend to like my female player characters in those games more exactly because they are not just fantasy-me. Sure I could do that with a male character as well, but it feels much less forced to develop a female character, well, into a character.

It doesn't bother me at all, if the game gives me a choice I'll generally play male my first time through, I might try female if the game is worth a second play through, if it doesn't give me a choice I really don't care, I can get into the story either way.

I am ok with a male or a female character. I pick characters based on personality... I should probably base them on statistics and strength and whatnot, but I usually go on personality.

Nup, don't care at all unless it's a character that looks like a girl but I figure out 3 hours in that it's a fucking guy! Thank you Hironobu Sakaguchi, that was very disturbing.

As a mate of mine once said to me whilst we were playing Morrowind all those years ago...

"If I'm going to spend 60+ hours staring at an arse on a screen, I'd prefer it to be a female arse"

Ahh Dizzey, you always did have a way with words.

A female character doesn't bother me really - if she's intentionally made to look really sexy and her clothes are revealing (Like Ivy in Soul Calibre) it makes it very awkward if anyone else is around.

I myself, enjoy playing chick characters most of the time, if I have a choice, a la option one up there on the poll. I ask because I have two friends I usually game with who differ greatly in opinion on the matter. One of my friends gives adamant protest if forced to play a female, sometimes to the point of outright refusal to play, which I find silly. My other friend doesn't care, and goes by stats. If stats aren't an issue, he says, it doesn't really matter then. We figured here would be as good a place as any to settle our argument about what the majority of gamers think about the (non)issue.

So, what about you folks? Any issues playing a girl?

EDIT: Added responses for ladies.
Hahahahah Thank you!!! Your poll option pretty much made my night!!!

I normally don't mind, but I just can't bring myself to make a female character in an RPG.

The only part I don't like about playing a female is with online interactions how guys will hit on me... I mean are they really that dense? Then I'm in the embarrassing situation of explaining why I chose a female avatar and I just wanted something nice to look at.

So yeah, Playstation Home sucks. Everyone ignores you unless you appear as a hot chick but then conversions turn... weird.

Don't care either way in offline games, I'm just playing through the actions of a character in a story.

In an mmo where I have an avatar however, I feel weird with a female avatar. Think it's the whole 'I can't identify with the thing representing me' thing.

Word of advice? Stay away from FFX-2. My dad still looks at me funny sometimes.
Well that's just good advice regardless of gender, surely ;-)
