I think if it were real, it would be a bit cruel, if for nothing other than the beatings he would get. As for gender confused? No. I go to work everyday with similarly coloured earphones on, and I'm pretty damn manly. No one even notices, I think only people with too much time on their hands find this sort of thing controversial. Like news stations

nope, I see nothing wrong... and frankly, it COULD be a girl... idk... yeah, it's a little wierd that the mom's painting her son's nails, but that's not some kinda brainwashing plot... people need to get over themselves...

I personally don't see wrong with it, he is way too young to have a 'sexual' identity. Sure it can be argued that if he is raised like this for years yet he will then have a preference to 'pink n pretty' things (quoting a friend who mentioned this earlier), but to me that isn't an argument to either way.

Let people develop and advance as they will, society needs to have many of its 'ideal' BS ways broken, and the fact that people are shouting and screaming over a 5 year old boy having pink toenails just goes to show that it is too obsessed with the 'macho no emotion' boy. It is just an extension as those reacting now believe that kid and ones who see it will grow up with those preferences.

It ain't my thing, but let people pick for themselves and don't look down on guys who dress 'girly' and view that as bad, because last time I checked, when a woman dresses 'manly' we don't point, shout n scoff at the idea. Double standards and equality.

Shit for all I know the kid is a girl.

And who cares, he's 5, nobody has a sexual identity at that age.
This.
I thought he was at first, and he is so young that it doesn't really matter. It is still a few years he has left to be innocent! Just leave it people, if he was 13 then there would be implications.

No, it's just a parent throwing embarassing shit on their kids, being allowed to do that is one of the benefits of having them.

Besides the first impression "holy shit is she about to kiss that kid?!" no not really
Exactly. Its a little bit over reading into it to say that any of that actually matters....

Yeah, I don't see how it's controversial. I know a guy who was a fair bit older than 5 and painted his nails, not only was he not remotely confused about his gender identity at any point, he's also not gay. So, nothing to freak out about in that ad...

Only sexually insecure men and their religiously dominated wives would react negatively. There is no controversy here. Move along citizen.

My only concern is that if she's still painting his toenails when he's say, twelve, he's going to get the crap kicked out of him.

But if she's a normally affectionate and protective mom (which certainly seems to be the case) she knows that and isn't going to let that happen.

Other than that, shrug. It's a mom making time with her child. There's nothing wrong with that. They seem to be enjoying their time together. I don't think this is going to create any gender confusion where it didn't already exist.

This is about as close to contrived controversy as I have seen. People complain about the most stupidest things. And wth is the young gender confused market? That must be one of the most niche markets ever. This is just shows it's either a slow news day or the media doesn't want the viewers to focus on some specific bit of news.

i guess the controversy is that this kid is likely to get his ass beat in the future if his schoolmates see this picture.

seriously, if you have kids, its probably best to raise them default-style. that means action figures for boys and dolls for girls, but if they decide to play with the opposite, thats fine. just dont make that choice for them and dress your 5-year-old son in a tutu x.x

meh

I see nothing wrong with the add, after all how many people were acting in complete accord with their gender role/stereotype when they were five?

I didn't notice the painted toes considering I was too busy thinking about how he's floating in the air.

I'm probably the wrong/worst person to comment on gender confusion (pretends to be a girl in MMOs to get free gear) but I don't see a problem with this. Lots of dudes got there finger/toe nails painted when they were younger or had their hair in a pony tail at one point. Its just something that happens when you have older females around young boys.
PONY TAILS ARE MANLY!!!ONEONEONE

No, I don't and common! Let the kid wear pink tutus if he wants! :D

I'm so glad that my parents didn't do that to me. Because deep down, you can all admit, the only reason you're straight is because you're parents raised you to be straight. And those of you who are gay...your parents...wait...DID SHIT LIKE THIS! Because there has never been a family who thought their son/daughter/brother/sister was straight only to find out they were gay. And there have never been super fantastic parents who are furious and outraged that their kid is gay. FUCK PINK NAILPOLISH!

Yes, that boy is clearly an autumn, and needs a darker color of nail polish.

Also where is the husband to overreact?
This.

But in all seriousness I find it kind off sad that gender-identities have been reduced to such a level that they are threatened by some nail polish.
