They're not doing it for your sake, they're doing it for their own sake. As stupid as it may be, if a parent sued Best Buy for selling a violent video game to a child, the parent would probably win.

You just hit the nail on the head. I agree that it should be the parents responsibility to monitor their child's gaming purchases, but Best Buy has to cover all of their bases from a legal standpoint.

in my country stores dont restrict purchases because there arent any of those game-related crimes. in portugal, people take responsability. in some bigger countrys people are too goddamn lazy and irresponsable to admit that they did something wrong. Take the columbine massacre for an example. doom 2 my ass. those kids were disturbed. the students in that school mocked them and beated on them. its that sort of attitude some people take that seriously piss me off. well, im pissed off most time, as a punk teenager, but whatever.

Jack Thompson is an ass. He needs to stop grouping ALL gamers as "crack addict, druggies" Not all of us are violent, there are many different things to consider before you blame video games for all of the violence.

This is a very valid point! People are never prepared to take responsibility for what they did, especially when a film/game/religion can easily take a spot for the blame! It'd be nice if that happened here in the UK as well!

The problem is, how do STORES know that you have your parents permission? If your mom or dad didn't follow you or buy it for you, then any kid could waltz in and get GTA.

This could be countered by saying that moms and dads should monitor, but maybe they're busy. Maybe they don't care. Maybe the kid is sneaking around with it behind their backs. Besides, kids need some freedom and privacy.

Well said...If Best Buy wants to enforce the ratings that is their choice as a business...However, it should not be the responsibility of the government to tell it's citizens what is moral and what is not...it is the other way around.
