I'll be getting it, as it looks more streamlined, but not remotely to such a degree as Mass Effect 2. And the Rogue looks to actually play like a Rogue. With nimble movements and all. Unlike most Rogues, which are usually just stealth characters in most games. I am very mad about being forced to play as a human with the dialogue wheel, though.
But it still has stats like Strength and Dexterity. And skill trees. And all that good shit. Me likey that stuff. Me likey that stuff with respec of some sort more...but me still likey.
Agreed about the Rogue, Onyx. It looks like it will be a blast to play. I want to be an archer because I fell in love with the build during my last Origins playthrough (doing 1000 damage regularly? Yes, please!). But the stabbiness...I don't know if I can resist. I pre-ordered the game in early January.
I'm back and forth on whether they are streamlining the traditional RPG elements too much. The skill trees at first glance seem much smaller. But it seems to expand when you select a particular option. I'm not sure on this, though, as I've only seen the Mage and Warrior trees and the tree for the Swashbuckler specialization.
But I'll post it here and try to explain it...
Notice the header for the page is "Abilities"
The header here says "Swashbuckler" instead of abilities. This could mean that you can spend points for a Specialization page separate from the abilities, or that when you select an ability you're shown a more in-depth look at it.
I have read that they have reduced the amount of spells for mages. I can't remember how reliable that source was, though.
So I don't really know if skills and abilities are more simplified or not. It's handled differently for sure, though.
Some reports on how inventory will be handled has me less excited. It does sound like they may be going the Mass Effect 2 route as far as companion armor goes. Bummer.
I'm still definitely looking forward to it and would be very surprised if this ends up not being one of my favorite games of the year, though.
I'm hoping the difficulty will be 1000% harder than Awakening was. I just played that on Hard (or whatever the level right before Nightmare is). Not only did my character not die once, but I only had a member of my party die twice, and both of those times were just because I was nearing the end of a boss fight and didn't really care about taking the time to heal them.

Well, I don't physically have it yet, but I preordered it from Steam about two months ago. If you mean actually already playing the game, then no, it'll be a bit yet.

No 'cos it isn't even DA:O, I know people are getting pissed at calling it dragon effect 2.
I love making different people, I made loads on DA:O, Oblivion and Morrowind, just to make them, I never even got past 2 hours of game play with most of them.
This has taken that away, why?
I liked the look of DA:O and that has gone, why?
They have taken two games, made the first game with the second games name + 1.
I often read "JRPG's aren't RPG's cos you have no control over the story or character", all we get to change the story/character in this is the story wheel.
I have pre-ordered it but I wont be picking it up, if it was the continuation of my DA:O story I would camp outside my game shop buy it.
I have played through DA:O four times and I've played all the origins even if I didn't finish the game with them.
DA:O is the story of how one person rose from tragedy and became the saviour of a country, and it was fun. I had fun playing an evil mage who let all the demons go (except for Sophie Dryden 'cuz Sten needed some new armor), and I had fun playing a naive elf who sacrificed herself. And it was even more enjoyable because the journey to the top of the tower to kill the Archdemon felt different every time.
I love the game for the characters, not for the setting, so I have no interest in purchasing or playing Dragon Age 2 because I have no interest in Hawke.
Now, if DA2 was the continuing adventures of my Warden I would be excited about it. Since it seems to be the continuing story of Ferelden, I think I'll pass.
DAO was too easy also. ( and yes, i played on nightmare )
Especially if you compare it to Baldurs Gate. The rules alone were WAY too forgiving compared to d&d 2nd edition. Where you actually have to think a little about your tactics a little.
I was unimpressed by ME2 and DA:O before release, and really enjoyed both, though the consolization (or Gears of Waring, if you prefer) of ME2 was a little unsettling. I would be willing to chance the whole "more action-y" approach of DA2 with a little more enthusiasm if I hadn't hated everything BioWare did after release with DA:O.
I was deeply disappointed by Dragon Age Origins and that was the end point of my fangirl relationship with Bioware. Especially after Mass Effect 2. So no, I won't be getting Dragon Age 2 or probably anything else that Bioware releases. Unless of course it has a substantially different plot with substantially different character archetypes. So yeah, I'm just going to play Jade Empire or Fallout New Vegas or even KoTOR II and forget that this game exists.
I honestly don't get it. What's the big deal about it being released on time?
And no. I'd didn't find the first one fun and I doubt I will find installment number two more amusing.
I said no but maybe it's an unsure (no, I won't buy it new that's for sure)
I guess the first one just didn't seem like something I'd enjoy playing, although the setting seems interesting to me. I love Mass Effect 2 but obviously the gameplay differentiates a lot from there.
I'll most likely wait and get the game of the year edition that comes with all the garbage DLC that should have been in the game in the first place. I thought the first Dragon Age was pretty good, but not great.
I'm really annoyed that I have to play as a human. Humans are boring and the cliche of a human comming to saving the world "because they're special" has jaded me to all human protagonists in a world with multiple races.
I also kinda liked the throw back to the pre-dialogue wheel in the first Dragon Age. I like the dialogue wheel in Mass Effect because it's been there since the start, changing Dragon Age to be more like Mass Effect isn't what I was hoping for though.
I'll have to check my resources, but if all checks out I'll be steaming a copy on launch day. I loved Dragon Age to death. While I don't think this game will move me quite as deep as the first one, I'm positive it will still be kick ass. You can consider me one of the "OMG BIOWARE MUST BUY" guys.
For me, part of DA:O's appeal was that it opened up a world that we didn't get to explore, and I always have confidence in Bioware's writing.
So I won't get to continue my warden's adventures in DA2... oh wait I already had the chance in the DLC for DA:O and awakening, and I didn't want to continue his story then either.
Buuuut to answer the OP's question yes, I pre-ordered it to get the Prince DLC.
absolutely going to buy it. i loved dragon age origins. unfortunately, while i would love to support bioware by buying thier game on release day (or pre-ordering it) my current computer may not run it well, so imma hold off until a steam sale. i need to play through dragon age again and then play through awakening for the first time anyway.
